Bus Tour to St. Louis: Holocaust Museum

Participants meet at Holy Cross Friary, 724 N. 20th St. for a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m.. We depart at 9:00 a.m. to Sweet Tomato Restaurant for lunch. After lunch we will journey to the St. Louis Holocaust Museum where we take a 2-hour and thirty minute tour led by museum docents. The Holocaust Museum and Learning Center houses a 5,000 square foot core exhibition that provides a chronological history of the Holocaust with personal accounts of Holocaust survivors who emigrated to St. Louis. Photographs, artifacts, text panels, and audio-visual displays guide visitors through pre-war Jewish life in Europe, the rise of Nazism and events during the Holocaust between 1933-1946, and post-war events including the Nuremberg Trials and Jewish life after the Holocaust. Price is $40 per person (includes tour fees). Lunch is not included in the price. Generation Gaps: It's More than Just Young vs. Old

We will look at this increasing diversity through the spectrums of demographics, politics, economics, technology, religion, and social customs. Understanding of diversity may lead to better communication and acceptance. Bully Awareness Class

The class is free of charge. All school age children from K-12 are welcome to attend. Parents need to attend the class with their children. Educators, coaches, counselors or anyone who works with children are also welcome. The instructor is Ray Amanat who is an Author, Speaker, and Educator on Bullying and Personal Protection. The class addresses the serious problem of bullying in schools. Hannibal High School, in association with the Missouri School-College Relations Commission, will sponsor College and Career Night on Thursday, September 25th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Hannibal High School. Toys for Tots Adult Prom

Ladies' Freedom Conference

Quincy Park District Fall Festival

Fire Prevention Week Kick-off Event

Will be held in the South lot by Bergners. If we have inclement weather, the event will be held inside the mall around the fountain court area. Outside activities for the kids include rapelling from the Aerial truck, spraying the fire hose, obstacle course, and the Fire Safety house. For the adults and kids, we will have our Flashover Cube demonstration at 3pm. One cube is set up to show how quickly and effectively a sprinkler works in a fire. Another cube shows how quickly a fire grows in size and temperature until it reaches the point of FLASHOVER. Dairy Queen will sponsor this years event and have coupons for free kids meals. Teutopolis Monastery Museum Tours

Visitors can view more than 30 rooms of the Teutopolis Monastery Museum from 12:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. It is recommended that you come early to see the many unique and interesting articles on display. Admission for adults is $3.00 and $1.00 for children. The Museum is located on the second floor int the former Franciscan Novitiate building which is located behind St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. A chair lift is available for visitors who have difficulty with stairs. Besides its collection of articles used by the Franciscan Friars, the Museum is also known for Bibles and books in different languages, some from the 1700's. The "pioneer wing" features items used by early Teutopolis pioneers, including farm tools, furniture, clocks, quilts, toys, various household and grocery store items. Great River Road Run Walk/Run 1/2 Marathon, 5K, or 55 mile ride is located in what is sometimes referred to as the heart of America. This course offers breathtaking views and majestic landscapes that inspire and sooth the soul. Nature has been kind to the banks and bluffs along this route. The Great River Road Run will set you alongside the mighty Mississippi as you make your way from Hamilton, Illinois to Nauvoo, Illinois. Bicyclist will forge on around and through the countryside back to the start. The beautiful fall setting will be spectacular as you make your way through the course. The course for the race takes participants entirely on paved surfaces, starting at the Great River Boat Company in Hamilton, IL beginning at 8:00 AM. JWCC Fine Arts Dept. Music Concert

Audiences will be treated to a wide variety of vocal and instrumental selections performed by talented area students at John Wood Community College’s Fine Arts Department Music Concert this fall.  The annual event is set for Sunday, October 19 at 2 p.m. in the JWCC Paul Heath Center Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium on the Quincy campus at 48th and Harrison. The Women’s Ministries of The Salvation Army will offer a “Life with Spice: Surviving Breast Cancer” group once a month at the Kroc Center as a celebration of life after breast cancer.
