Payson Old Settlers Picnic

The Payson Old Settlers Picnic kicks off with the Payson Fire Department's Fish Fry beginning at 4 pm on Friday night. The opening ceremonies for the picnic take place at 5 pm on the stage. Donnellson Vacation Bible School

The Donnellson Churches would like to invited everyone to attend The Workshop of Wonders: Vacation Bible School 2014. It will be held July 28th through August 1st, 2014 from 10:00 a.m to 1:15 p.m. with lunch provided. Elizabeth Newcomb-Stillwell's Classes for Young Ladies-Caroline

Girls aged 8 and up are invited to join Caroline Abbott, a young lady of 1812 who loves to sew and sail in her boat for a week of food and crafts. Girls in this class will sew a quilt for their dolls along with other fun crafts. All students must be aged 8 and up. Quincy Public Schools will conduct a Summer Food service Program during the summer of 2014. Berrian & Washington are our two main summer feeding sites. 20th Annual Ice Cream Social

On August 1st, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. the Wesley Village will be hosting their 20th Annual Ice Cream Social at the Wesley Campus. Walking Tour of Dicks Brewery Area and Dick Family Homes

The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County will continue hosting a series of walking tours with the Saturday, August 2 that will feature Dicks Brewery and the Dick family homes. Both tours will begin at 10 a.m. at the Historical Society’s Visitors Center, 425 South 12th Street. The tours are $6 for members of the HSQAC and $10 for non members. Membership applications will be available for those wishing to join that day. Those going on the tours are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and have the ability to climb stairs and walk at least one mile. Many times home owners will invite tourgoers to come inside and see their home. Children are welcome and are charged the same as adults. Following the tour, participants will return to the John Wood Mansion and will be welcome to tour it and/or shop in the Visitor’s Center gift shop. Teutopolis Monastery Museum Tours

Visitors can view more than 30 rooms of the Teutopolis Monastery Museum from 12:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. It is recommended that you come early to see the many unique and interesting articles on display. Admission for adults is $3.00 and $1.00 for children. The Museum is located on the second floor int the former Franciscan Novitiate building which is located behind St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. A chair lift is available for visitors who have difficulty with stairs. Blues in the District - Marquise Knox - Free Admission

Born in 1991 St. Louis Mo, Marquise hails from a musical family deeply entrenched in the Blues. He learned how to play guitar from his grandmother Lillie whose family were sharecroppers and whose great, great grandparents were slaves. He also played with his uncle Clifford, who was a major influence in Marquise's life. For Marquise, Blues is his heritage and a way of life. He spent his early teenage years in St. Louis mentoring under the late great Blues legend, N.E.A. Heritage Fellowship recipient and Grammy Award winner Henry James Townsend. Marquise's talents have earned him performing rights with some of America's most notable blues performers such as blues legend and Grammy Award winners B.B. King, Pinetop Perkins and David "Honeyboy" Edwards (the latter two also NEA Heritage Fellows). The Canton R-V Elementary School will host TWO separate one-day workshops in August on Saturday, August 9th and August 16th to teach community citizens interested in Northeast Missouri and local history how to incorporate local history into one of the most consulted online resources, Wikipedia. These will be the first workshops of their kind in the entire Midwest. These one-day Wiki-Write workshops will be led by experts who will guide you through the complexities of editing Wikipedia. Participants will learn how to correct errors and misinformation, how to add new information, and how to include photographs, maps and links to sources of information. History Writing Workshop

The Canton R-V Elementary School will host TWO separate one-day workshops in August on Saturday, August 9th and August 16th to teach community citizens interested in Northeast Missouri and local history how to incorporate local history into one of the most consulted online resources, Wikipedia. Blues in the District - Samantha Fish - Free Admission

Wounded Warrior Project 5K Run/Walk

The Keokuk Odd Fellows Lodge 13 is hosting the Wounded Warrior Project 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 23rd starting and ending at Odd Fellows Lodge 13. Lunch in the Park with the Mayor
