Table For Five . . . Thousand
What can you do with a few loaves of bread and fish? Quite a lot!!
This is the miracle described in all four of the Gospels of the New Testament in which Jesus directed his disciples to feed five thousand people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Lifetree Cafe
Best-selling author of The Shack, William Paul Young, shares his struggles of abuse and scandal in an exclusive film at Lifetree Café.
Young experienced a number of personal crises before writing the novel that has sold over 10 million copies. As a child he was abused by a New Guinea tribe. Loved ones died too young. And he cheated on his wife. He says he put his life of evil into a metaphorical “shack,” a dark, ugly place deep within him.
That image of a shack forms the setting for his book, The Shack. The Lifetree program, titled “Can God Love a Mess Like Me?” explores Young’s spiritual breakthroughs that finally brought him peace.
The book, though embraced by millions, has attracted controversy because of its fictional depictions of God.
Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available.

February Food Film Fest
Come watch the film "Super Size Me"
Director Morgan Spurlock takes a hilarious and often terrifying look at the effects of fast food on the human body, using himself as the proverbial guinea pig. For one month, Spurlock eats nothing but McDonald's fare. Spurlock offers a very genuine look into several controversial issues, and a touch of humor helps it go down easier than a vanilla milkshake. He examines the obesity dilemma in the US, problems in the United States public school system, and corporate greed and neglect. Unlike Michael Moore documentaries though - Spurlock achieves this w/o humiliating people, slanting perspectives, or acting obnoxious.
Public is welcome and all films are free of charge.

The Katie’s Choice Book Club selection for February is “Copycat” by Erica Spindler.
Rockford native and author Erica Spindler’s12th novel, Copy Cat, features Kitt Lundgren and Mary Catherine
"M.C." Riggio of the fictional Rockford, IL Violent Crimes Bureau. In this novel Spindler’s characters are on the
trail of the Sleeping Angel Killer. Her setting in Rockford provides a fresh background for two believable
investigators. Kitt, a recovering middle-aged alcoholic, tried and failed to catch the murderer five years earlier,
during a 2001 killing spree, while her own child was dying of leukemia and her marriage was falling apart under
the strain. Now, when eerily similar crimes recur, someone calls Kitt, identifying himself as the original killer
and the new perpetrator as just a copycat. M.C. an ambitious, distrustful new detective, is assigned to help Kitt
with the investigation. The two must overcome their personal problems in order to catch the monster, a task
culminating in a breathless finale.…

The Cheddar Curtain
The Northwest Illinois Theater Coalition brings the third Annual Cheddar Curtain production to the region. The Cheddar Curtain is a compilation of locally written one act plays, songs and comedic skits. The 2012 production promises to delight audiences with three original one act plays. ‘In a Family Way’ by Mary Ann Presman, takes a light hearted look at family misunderstandings when an unemployed young man and his wife are forced to live with his parents. ‘Only One Choice’ by Peter Woodruff, shows a whimsical yet dark fictional conversation between Chief Blackhawk and other influential native Americans toward the end of his failed 1832 campaign to reoccupy ancestral land in northern Illinois. ‘Mis Taken Identity’ by Kim Sigafus is a humorous account of mobster John Dillinger passing through northern Illinois on his way to Wisconsin. In addition to the three plays will be solo and ensemble musical numbers and short comedic skits.

Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Program Meeting
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Lead Program is holding a meeting to inform the public about changes in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Renovation, Repair and Painting lead law that went into effect April 22, 2010.
The law requires contractors, property managers and others paid to replace windows or renovate residential houses, apartments and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 to be certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Common activities like sanding, cutting and demolition can disturb lead-based paint creating hazardous lead dust and chips, which can be harmful to children and adults.
To register and learn more about this law and the new changes, click on the following link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JNJJKHH. For more information about the meetings, contact the Lead Program at 217-782-3517.
