Join the NEW Senior Strollers Walking Club! A partnership between the Cornelius PARC Department and the North Mecklenburg Senior Center, this program will be geared toward seniors who are looking to socialize with their peers and enjoy fitness at the same time! The club will meet weekly on Wednesday mornings at 8:00am at Bailey Road Park (11536 Bailey Road) at the playground by the tennis courts. There is a trail that loops around the park. Seniors can walk as long as they want, and it's free! Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

SISC water aerobics, back, arthritis workouts, and water walking exercise classes are taught by certified instructors.

It’s not just a game! Mah Jongg is definitely a social outing where laughs and commiserations are shared. In part, it’s the camaraderie, but there is something else, something unexplainable about the game, that bonds people. Some have summed up the version of the centuries old Chinese tile game as a, ‘rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards.’ And another interesting aspect is you don’t play with a partner. If you make a wrong decision, it’s your wrong decision. If you win, it’s all because of you! Once you learn the game, it becomes addictive. Community School of Davidson presents their inaugural high school musical, Little Shop of Horrors, May 23-25, 2013. This two-act musical features 18 cast members as well as numerous little “off-shoots.” The performance is suitable for audiences ages 5-105.
“Our students are busy rehearsing and creating props for our big musical debut,” commented Melissa Ohlman-Roberge, CSD Drama Teacher and Director of Little Shop of Horrors. “We are renting the large Audrey plant from a Charlotte high school who has recently performed Little Shop of Horrors. The rental benefits both schools’ arts programs.” Proceeds of the performance help with the funding of the new 200+ performance center and arts wing opening soon at the CSD High School.

The Covekeepers are the eyes and hands of the Catawba Riverkeeper. It would not be possible to patrol the entire basin and respond to all of the issues and investigate possible violations of the environmental laws without the dedicated Covekeeper volunteers.
The goals of the CRF Covekeeper program are to (1) involve citizens in patrolling the Catawba River; (2) educate and involve lake residents in protection efforts; and (3) to create a network of active CRF ambassadors. What we have discovered is that this program has a ripple effect that, once begun, builds from its own positive momentum. Many of our Covekeeper volunteers when they begin our intensive training session expect, as do most Americans, that our waters are clean and that governmental action will deter polluters. At the end of our year-long program, they have the scientific knowledge to identify pollution events and they have the political and legal wisdom to put their work into a larger context.

Musical - Little Shop of Horrors
Community School of Davidson presents their inaugural high school musical, Little Shop of Horrors, May 23-25, 2013. This two-act musical features 18 cast members as well as numerous little “off-shoots.” The performance is suitable for audiences ages 5-105.
“Our students are busy rehearsing and creating props for our big musical debut,” commented Melissa Ohlman-Roberge, CSD Drama Teacher and Director of Little Shop of Horrors. “We are renting the large Audrey plant from a Charlotte high school who has recently performed Little Shop of Horrors. The rental benefits both schools’ arts programs.” Proceeds of the performance help with the funding of the new 200+ performance center and arts wing opening soon at the CSD High School.

March Against Monsanto, Charlotte announced today that on May 25, approximately 650 will “March Against Monsanto.” The marchers will meet at 1:30 PM, at Marshall Park to prepare for the scheduled 2:00 PM march. They will be marching in unison with marchers from 286 cities, across the country.
Maria McCarthy, the organizer of the event, says she was inspired to lead the march in order to raise awareness. “When countless polls reveal that anywhere from 81% to 97% of the American public would like to see GMO foods labeled, why hasn’t it happened yet?” The full March Against Monsanto mission statement can be read here.
The march, at the public level, seems to already be receiving bipartisan support. As a result, McCarthy expects to encounter little resistance along the way. “I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t want to know when their food is being genetically altered. Medicare Fraud is a $60 Billion Dollar a year business. Join a representative of the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and Senior Medicare Patrol Project (SMP) for an information session on using the newly revised Medicare Summary Notice. This is a FREE event held at South Iredell Senior Center on Tues. May 28 from 6-8 p.m. The purpose of the program is to educate the community on how to protect, detect, and report Medicare Fraud. Whether a family person or a single individual, the returning veteran may have mental health issues caused by military service in a combat zone.
