Kennedy Legacy Walking Trail

Documentary Workshop: Storytelling

Classes/Workshops In this workshop, we will investigate the theme of migration through documentary filmmaking, audio recording, and photography. Every year, Cape Cod attracts an estimated six million visitors. In the summer, this influx of vacationers and seasonal workers contrast starkly with the Cape Cod year-round population. Students will be given the technical tools and knowledge to create a short narrative documentary about the visitors and residents on the Cape. Participants will learn how to shoot video and take photographs, and record interviews and compile the information using editing software (Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Photoshop, Audacity). Fresco

Classes/Workshops Fresco is usually thought of as a mural medium, but today many artists paint on small, lightweight surfaces that can easily be moved and hung on walls. Fresco is a very large strong and durable material which can be shaped into three dimensional forms, thus making it a sculptural medium as well. In this course, we will learn how to prepare and paint on lime mortar, the oldest paint surface, dating back to the ancient Minoan culture. We will discuss various supports that can be used, such as styrofoam insulation panels, ceramic tiles, and expanded metal lath. Students will make one or more panels they can take with them. The course will include a brief survey of fresco, from the Greeks and Etruscans up to modern times. Also included will be information on materials, tools, and pigments as well as a listing of books, articles, and web sites. Handbuilding & Raku Firing

Classes/Workshops Monday/Tuesday: 9am-12pm Wednesday: NO CLASS Thursday/Friday: 9am-4pm This class will explore the many wonders of form and surface through a variety of hand-building techniques by building a personal vessel or small figurative sculpture. Students may take this further by building a pedestal that displays the vessel/sculpture. Students will complete an archival object that marks their time and presence with their piece, and then experience and witness its Raku firing. The class will build with clay and other materials for two days, take a one-day break while the pieces dry for bisque firing, and return to Castle Hill for glazing and firing on the final two days. Jim Brunelle returns to Castle Hill from Hartford, CT, bringing his teaching and hands-on techniques to a variety of interest levels. He has a wide range of experience in working with clay, including wheel throwing, pinching, sculpting, and primarily Raku firing. Classes/Workshops Fresco is usually thought of as a mural medium, but today many artists paint on small, lightweight surfaces that can easily be moved and hung on walls. Fresco is a very large strong and durable material which can be shaped into three dimensional forms, thus making it a sculptural medium as well. In this course, we will learn how to prepare and paint on lime mortar, the oldest paint surface, dating back to the ancient Minoan culture. We will discuss various supports that can be used, such as styrofoam insulation panels, ceramic tiles, and expanded metal lath. Students will make one or more panels they can take with them. Every year, Cape Cod attracts an estimated six million visitors. In the summer, this influx of vacationers and seasonal workers contrast starkly with the Cape Cod year-round population. Fresco

Classes/Workshops Fresco is usually thought of as a mural medium, but today many artists paint on small, lightweight surfaces that can easily be moved and hung on walls. Fresco is a very large strong and durable material which can be shaped into three dimensional forms, thus making it a sculptural medium as well. In this course, we will learn how to prepare and paint on lime mortar, the oldest paint surface, dating back to the ancient Minoan culture. We will discuss various supports that can be used, such as styrofoam insulation panels, ceramic tiles, and expanded metal lath. Students will make one or more panels they can take with them. The course will include a brief survey of fresco, from the Greeks and Etruscans up to modern times. Also included will be information on materials, tools, and pigments as well as a listing of books, articles, and web sites.
