Portraiture in Clay

Classes/Workshops The universality of the human head is counterbalanced by the small differentials that make each a recognizable, unique individual. Basic structure and relative proportions are a critical part of every head - distinctive features bring the portrait to life. In this workshop we will hope to further understand those elements. All levels of experience are invited to join this workshop. We will work four mornings with the model. On the fifth day we will prepare the results for firing in a kiln or casting in a two-piece mold. (The latter may require additional studio time, to be arranged if necessary.) Professor Elsa Johnson is a sculptor, working predominantly within a figurative tradition, modeling and casting. However her studio work includes frequent forays into abstract or experimental endeavors, inspired by issues that are embedded in the Foundation curriculum in Three Dimensional Design. An affinity for portraiture has resulted in numerous commissioned works ranging from miniature bronzes to life size fig… Region: Lower Cape. Town: Truro. Category: Community. Cost: $425. The Original Idea: A Memoir Workshop

Classes/Workshops his will be a class for people who want to write essays or a memoir. There will be daily reading (Gornick, Capote, Solnit and others) and writing assignments and we will have discussions about why having an original idea for anything you write is not only what makes it exciting for other people to read, but also what makes it something necessary for you to write. We all have lives, subject matters, ideas and – if we’re lucky – a voice, a style on the page that reflects looking through a different window at the world everybody is living in. But how do we put all of that together and come up with truly memorable – searing – writing? In this class, we will all try for precisely that. Bring your ideas and just as importantly, your energy and your humor. Michael Klein's third book of poems is The Talking Day (Sibling Rivalry Press). His second book of poems, Then, We Were Still Living, was a Lambda Literary Award finalist and his first book, 1990, tied with James Schuyler to win the award in 1993. Installation Art & Sonic Exploration

Classes/Workshops Installation art can reflect how we are living, behaving, and perceiving; a multilayered, multitasked, interactive experience. In the 21st-Century, installation art is a prevalent discipline for many artists & a means for understanding spatial relationships. We are living at a time when a cross pollination of artistic methods reflect societal and geographical influences. This will be the departing point for the introduction to these fundamental ideas. You will learn to discuss installation art terminology and technical specifications in order to synthesize both with this process-oriented class. You will be introduced to interventions, multi-sensorial acts, performance, and the sonic investigation of space. The class will discuss performance artists and different installation practices. Assignments will be given as well as a space to work. Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons (Ella Jackson Chair) works with themes of dislocation & the complexities of identity of multidisciplinary artists.

Installation Art & Sonic Exploration

Classes/Workshops Installation art can reflect how we are living, behaving, and perceiving; a multilayered, multitasked, interactive experience.

Cost: $425.
