Kennedy Legacy Walking Trail

Trips / Tours Take a walk through history. The Kennedy Legacy Trail is a self-guided walking tour of sites in downtown Hyannis, Cape Cod that are significant to the Kennedy family. Advanced Encaustic

Classes/Workshops A workshop for artists who enjoy layering and manipulating paint & color, allowing the process to tell a story. Working with encaustic paint both on panels and off, we will explore dimensionality; wax-based paint will be built up, scraped, folded, carved, cut, poured, eroded, and stressed to create freestanding and wall-mounted works. Beginning Black & White Photography for Teens

Expression and Ease: Pots a la Carte

Classes/Workshops Potters are always working on certain pots, striving to make them more expressive and to form them with greater ease. What are the pots you return to again and again? This class will focus on pots students choose. We will generate a list —specific pots such as cups, mugs, bowls, pitchers, teapots or perhaps more general elements such as handles, lids, or spouts. The goal is to go home with some new techniques and practical ideas about how to improve your menu of pots. Mark Shapiro makes wood-fired pots in Western Massachusetts. He is a frequent lecturer, curator, panelist, and writer, and is mentor to a half-dozen apprentices who have trained at his Stonepool Pottery. His work was featured in the 4th World Ceramics Biennial in Icheon, Korea, and is in many public collections. Pigment Stick & Encaustic on Glass

Classes/Workshops This class will focus on using recycled glass as a surface for working with pigment stick and encaustic paint, both of which can be surprising. The flexibility of these paints allows for a variety manipulation, from blending colors on a piece of warm glass, to using collage elements on glass with wax as a binder, including other types of mark-making methods and tools. The smooth surface of glass allows for endless possibilities while working with an image in reverse.The class will be divided into two parts. The first part of the class will cover working with pigment stick on glass, the second part of the class will include working with encaustic on glass, and then we will work with ways to combine both. Solarplate: The Fun Way of Printmaking

Classes/Workshops Solarplate is an artistic method of making multiple images on paper without sweat, blood and tears. Learn and study this simple technique from master printmaker, Dan Welden, the early pioneer of safer and healthier printmaking, Solarplate Etching is an exciting, spontaneous technique that utilizes UV light and water instead of traditional grounds and acids and yields highly professional results. The Solarplate is a light-sensitized polymer printing plate that accepts all kinds of drawings, paintings or photographic images on acetate, photocopies, and/or digital positives from transparent film. Artists can experience painting freely and directly on the Solarplate surface and create a matrix capable of yielding many impressions or they can work through traditional or digital approaches on transparent film. Nauset Marsh Family Cruise

Monoprints on Plaster

Classes/Workshops Halfway between fresco painting and mono-printing lies the fun, experimental technique of making mono prints on plaster. Pigment Stick & Encaustic on Glass

Classes/Workshops This class will focus on using recycled glass as a surface for working with pigment stick and encaustic paint, both of which can be surprising. The flexibility of these paints allows for a variety manipulation, from blending colors on a piece of warm glass, to using collage elements on glass with wax as a binder, including other types of mark-making methods and tools. Monoprints on Plaster

Expression and Ease: Pots a la Carte

Pigment Stick & Encaustic on Glass

Classes/Workshops This class will focus on using recycled glass as a surface for working with pigment stick and encaustic paint, both of which can be surprising. The flexibility of these paints allows for a variety manipulation, from blending colors on a piece of warm glass, to using collage elements on glass with wax as a binder, including other types of mark-making methods and tools. Mixed Media Concrete

Monoprints on Plaster

Classes/Workshops Halfway between fresco painting and mono-printing lies the fun, experimental technique of making mono prints on plaster. Artists will paint images on Plexiglas and then cast those images into fresh plaster. It's exciting, it’s unnerving, and it’s experimental. Classes/Workshops In this hands-on workshop, students will explore how HDR opens up a range of new opportunities for photographers, while learning how to shoot the series of exposures needed for processing. Students will gain an understanding of how to use and read a histogram, one of the keys to successful HDR. Session includes shooting and how to process HDR photos, as well as a review of the major software applications such as Photoshop CS5, Photomatix 4.0 and NIK HDR Pro. In addition to reviewing the global adjustments, we’ll look at doing local adjustments with Photoshop CS5 masking techniques and NIK HDR Pro control point adjustments. Discovery Center Summer Programs

Classes/Workshops The Buzzards Bay Coalition has begun running their free summer programs aiming to educate and to connect visitors with their environment.
