North Kansas City Farmer's Market Offers More This Year
Farm fresh produce, bread products, honey, eggs and craft items are once again available at the Friday morning North Kansas City Farmer's Market at the intersection of Armour and Howell. This market, in its seventh year, operates from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday.
SNAP/EBT cards enable holders to get double-value from use of their card to buy food products. This generous offer is through the Beans & Greens program made possible from a grant from the Menorah Legacy Foundation.
Cooking and nutrition tips will be offered on seven Fridays this summer by the Missouri Extension Division. The dates are June 7th, June 21st, July 5th, July 19th, August 2th, August 16th, and August 30th.

Kids Team Up for Art
Children in kindergarten through eighth grade are encouraged to tap their creative energies and create masterpieces during the Westport Center for the Arts’ “Team Up for Art.”
Participants will focus on both individual skill building and the completion of a group project by the end of the session.
Participants are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for working with paint, glue, clay and other hands-on materials. Parent or guardians of children 8 years old or younger must attend the session. Younger participants and their families should plan on spending at least two hours at the workshop.
Enrollment is free.

Memorial Day at Union Cemetery
Please join the Union Cemetery Historical Society and the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department on Monday, May 27, for an old-fashioned Memorial Day service. The thirty-minute ceremony will be held at the flagpole in the middle of Union Cemetery, Kansas City’s oldest public cemetery, at 11:30am. Located at 227 East 28th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64108. Participants in this tribute to those who have served our country include local Cub and Boy Scouts, re-enactor groups, local politicians and others. A cookies and lemonade reception will follow the ceremony, hosted by the Civil War Roundtable of Western Missouri.

National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration
“Nutrition & Survivorship” is the theme for the 28th annual Kansas City Celebration of Life Rally. Cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and supporters will gather to share the inspiring power of hope.
Longtime breast cancer activist Floriene Lieberman of Leawood will receive the eighth annual Richard A. Bloch Cancer Survivorship Award.
Shanice and Maurice Hayes, who made the top 10 on television’s “America’s Got Talent” in 2012, will perform. KSHB chief meteorologist Gary Lezak and weekend anchor Cynthia Newsome, both cancer survivors, will be part of the program.
The rally is the oldest and most inclusive cancer survivorship celebration in the United States.

Li'l Legends Kids Club with Radio Disney
Legends Outlets Kansas City is announcing free fun for kids ages 12 and under with its Li’l Legends Kids Club presented by Radio Disney, a monthly activities program offering free summer fun in a safe, interactive environment. Taking place in June, July and August, each Li’l Legends event will feature games, crafts, giveaways, and various acts associated with that month’s theme. Moving Day: A Walk for Parkinson's
Moving Day® is a collaborative effort of the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the National Parkinson Foundation Heartland Chapter. This event is a day of joining together and raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease.
In addition to a fundraising walk, this is a celebration of movement, with a special Movement Pavilion featuring various types of exercise including seated exercise, boxing, tai chi and “Parkinson Experience” which allows people to experience what it is like to have Parkinson’s disease.
A 1-mile and 3-mile walk will be available, you can choose to walk either the day-of. There is no fee to register, but we do ask that you fundraise on behalf of NPF Heartland. Moving Day is a family-friendly event and wheelchair accessible.

6th Annual Kansas City VisionWalk
The Kansas City Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness will host our 6th Annual Kansas City VisionWalk on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Frank A. Theis Park in Kansas City, MO. The 5K walk is a family-friendly event benefitting the KC community, as well as the 10 million people of all ages affected by blinding retinal degenerative diseases throughout the country. The event is free to anyone and everyone! Pets are welcome. We will have a bounce house, balloon artist, facepainting, DJ, mascots from local teams to entertain the kids, and a free lunch for all walkers. We will also have light refreshments, and will serve a free lunch afterward.
Beautiful Theis Park is located right next to Kauffman Memorial Gardens (where you can park) and just south of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art at the intersection of Oak and 47th Streets (47th is also called Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard). Li'l Legends Kids Club with Radio Disney
Legends Outlets Kansas City is announcing free fun for kids ages 12 and under with its Li’l Legends Kids Club presented by Radio Disney, a monthly activities program offering free summer fun in a safe, interactive environment. Taking place in June, July and August, each Li’l Legends event will feature games, crafts, giveaways, and various acts associated with that month’s theme. Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy
If cancer is the diagnosis, expert kitchen ideas aren’t far away.
Cancer patients, families and caregivers are invited to “Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy,” a new class from The University of Kansas Cancer Center that will include cooking demonstrations with recipes and tips for making food appealing and enhancing appetites.
The free Be Well! program will be offered from noon-1 p.m. July 18, at The University of Kansas Clinical Research Center in the Fairway Office Park, 4350 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, Kan. Other kitchen therapy classes are planned for the third Thursday of each month.

Li'l Legends Kids Clubs with Radio Disney
Legends Outlets Kansas City is announcing free fun for kids ages 12 and under with its Li’l Legends Kids Club presented by Radio Disney, a monthly activities program offering free summer fun in a safe, interactive environment. ACL Injuries: Prevention Programs and Advancements in Surgical Techniques
The University of Kansas Hospital, the official healthcare provider of the Kansas City Chiefs, will present a free Be Well! program on ACL injury prevention and surgical advancements this summer.
