Keiji Shinohara

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

The Arts Center’s Permanent Collection includes photorealistic and abstract portrayals of pastoral and urban landscapes by some of North Carolina’s most well recognized artists. Nine works are now on display including such artists as Claude Howell, Francis Speight, and John Gay.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create
large scale vessels inspired by antiquities which bring new appreciation to both form and technique.

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

Annual Kids Day Celebration
Arts Center
Join us for an afternoon of fun filled family activities including puppet shows by the Fire Department, safety information from the Police Department, a drum circle from Music Explorium, Keep America Beautiful activities, drum making, clay activities and plenty more.
Kids Day is also when we celebrate Youth Art Month by opening the annual Young At Art Exhibition. Enjoy fun, educational, family activities throughout the day at the Rocky Mount Arts Center! There will be plenty of hands-on activities for all ages.
All Kids Day activities are free to the public. No registration is required. Just drop by and join in the fun!

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

Keiji Shinohara

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Artists have depicted their physical environment in paint and print throughout history. The Arts Center’s Permanent Collection includes photorealistic and abstract portrayals of pastoral and urban landscapes by some of North Carolina’s most well recognized artists. Nine works are now on display including such artists as Claude Howell, Francis Speight, and John Gay.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create
large scale vessels inspired by antiquities which bring new appreciation to both form and technique.

Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity
Children's Museum & Science Center
There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!
"Black Holes" is showing now at the Cummins Planetarium at the Rocky Mount Children's Museum & Science Center. This planetarium show will run through April 30, 2010.

Keiji Shinohara

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create
large scale vessels inspired by antiquities which bring new appreciation to both form and technique.

Keiji Shinohara
Arts Center
In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

The Arts Center’s Permanent Collection includes photorealistic and abstract portrayals of pastoral and urban landscapes by some of North Carolina’s most well recognized artists. Nine works are now on display including such artists as Claude Howell, Francis Speight, and John Gay.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create
large scale vessels inspired by antiquities which bring new appreciation to both form and technique.

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!
"Black Holes" is showing now at the Cummins Planetarium at the Rocky Mount Children's Museum & Science Center. This planetarium show will run through April 30, 2010.

Keiji Shinohara

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create
large scale vessels inspired by antiquities which bring new appreciation to both form and technique.

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

Keiji Shinohara

In 1975, Keiji Shinohara spent five months convincing Uesugi Keiichiro to accept him as an apprentice in ukiyo-e (a system of Japanese wood block print production refined in the 18th century) and several more years converting from left to right handed techniques after being accepted. Eventually heralded as a master printer himself, Keiji traveled to the US to expand his audience. Today his works can be found in prestigious collections and exhibitions all over the world. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Stuart Kent began his pursuit of wood working under a production cabinetmaker and solidified his aesthetic fingerprint during his Master of Fine Arts degree at East Carolina University. He currently operates a commission furniture and design business in Greenville, NC. Kent combines turned wood and cast sculptural elements to create

Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity

There’s a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end – experience “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity” at the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum & Science Center’s Cummins Planetarium. Zip through other-worldly wormholes, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Narrated by actor Liam Neeson, the planetarium’s newest full dome video presentation delivers the first scientifically generated depiction of a trip inside a black hole and presents compelling evidence that a super-massive black hole may inhabit the heart of our own Milky Way galaxy!

Topics include: Ethics & Leadership, Search & Seizure, Professional Standards, Firearms Training, Crime Scene Investiation, Drug and Alcohol Classes, and more.
