Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County’s Master Gardener program hosts a bus trip to Brooklyn Botanic Garden from 7:30 a.m. returning at 5 p.m. If you cannot make it on the day of the trip please send someone in your place. Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) is a botanical garden in the borough of The 52 acre botanical garden includes Steinhardt Conservatory, which houses the C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum, three climate-themed plant pavilions, a white cast-iron and glass aquatic plant house, and an art gallery. Founded in 1910, the Garden holds over 10,000 taxa of plants and each year welcomes over 900,000 visitors from around the world.

William Morris lecture, with Kurt Henry

Kurt Henry presents a lecture about William Morris, celebrating the life of this international celebrity of the 19th century. While Morris may have refered to himself in a poem as “the idle singer of an empty day,” his physician diagnosed his cause of death as “simply being William Morris and as having done more work than most ten men.” The talk will explore the many accomplishments of this extraordinary man. In celebration of the Walker Valley Fire Company 75th Anniversary there will be an Old Fashioned Day. Free. Participants in booths to demonstrate their "Old Fashioned" crafts, relics, antiques or wares.
Needed are: blacksmith, wood carvers, dancers, Walker Valley Marching Band, quilters, Native American artifacts, fire companies showing equipment from old times to present, old time games such as 3 legged race, egg toss & hoop race. Everyone is invited to attend the event wearing "Old Fashioned" clothes.
Specific equipment ranging from the 1800's to the present to show the progress over the last century. Specific examples are clothes washing, cooking, woodcutting, ice cutting, woodworking, and farm equipment. Free admission, but raffle tickets will be sold to defray costs of the event.
