Science Café Cleveland presents “Mercury and Beyond: How and Why We Explore the Planets”

Submitted Join Steven A. Hauck, II at this month's Science Cafe Cleveland. Each of the planets in our Solar System has its own story to tell. Earth-based telescope observations have identified and tracked our planetary companions orbiting the Sun for hundreds of years. However, exploration with spacecraft have shown us these worlds up close, some in such detail we could imagine exploring them on foot. Starting with NASA's MESSENGER mission, which was the first spacecraft to orbit and map the planet Mercury we'll discuss the scientific rationale for sending space robots to explore the other worlds in our planetary neighborhood. Discussion topics will range from the origins of the planets, to the nature of their surface and interiors, and why the solid bodies throughout the solar system are so different. Doors will be open 5:30 - 9:00 PM (Last call at 8:45PM). Presentation and discussion is 7:00-8:00 PM. Limited menu options will be available for purchase. Not to mention beer!
