Science Café Cleveland presents “The Evidence of Big Bang Inflation”

Submitted The idea behind Cosmic Inflation is that the universe underwent a very early period of "hyperexpansion". This idea provides the only explanation to date of several basic things about the universe that otherwise we might have to attribute to pure coincidence. In March of this year, the Bicep2 team announced to great fanfare the discovery of a signal in the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation that supposedly told us some very important things about Cosmic Inflation. Subsequent analysis has shown that their signal may be due to galactic dust rather than Cosmic Inflation; only time (and more data) will tell. Join John Ruhl in discussion on Big Bang cosmology, Cosmic Inflation, the challenges of making such ambitious measurements of extremely small signals, and why our own research team travels to the Antarctic in efforts to pursue them. Doors will be open 5:30 - 9:00 PM (Last call at 8:45PM). Discussion begins around 7:00 PM. Limited menu options will be available for purchase. Not to mentio… Monday, September 8, 2014, 7:00 PM. 4th Annual Northern Ohio Congenital Heart Walk

Your support will help continue this process. The Congenital Heart Walk is an exciting joint effort between the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and the Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF)! This effort will raise funds to help both organizations continue their missions to address the needs of both the newly diagnosed and long-term survivors of congenital heart defects, in a truly inspirational day of sharing, caring and fun. Inferno: Video Installation

Submitted July 17 – October 19, 2014 Included with Museum admission; $12 Adult, $10 Senior, $10 Student (12+), $5 Youth (5-11) A powerful new cinematic offering from renowned Israeli artist Yael Bartana, Inferno centers on a replica of Solomon’s Temple currently being constructed by a Neo-Pentecostal Church in São Paulo, Brazil. In just 18 minutes Inferno implodes traditional concepts of place, time and belief. Bartana combines real events with a “pre-imagining” that is sure to inspire a flood of questions and spark debate around topics such as creation, ritual, memorialization and commercialization. With its rich pageantry, stylized costuming and references to epic Hollywood blockbusters, Inferno has been referred to as a “visual feast.” The Maltz Museum’s video installation is the film’s second showing in the U.S. and its Midwest premiere. Support for Inferno is generously provided by Toby Devan Lewis, Dealer Tire, Israel Art Connection and Federation and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, 12:00 PM. Maltz Museum of Jewish of Heritage 2929 Richmond Rd Beachwood, OH 44122.
