The Changing of the Guard at The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier
Members of the Starbase Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will reenact the “Changing of the Guard” at the replica of the Tomb of the Unknowns west of Floral Haven Funeral Home. They will be performing this solemn ceremony 24 hours a day (every half hour during the daytime and every hour at night) beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday. Many of these cadets have undergone special training with the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Tulsa Music Festival runs 11 a.m.-10 p.m. May 25 at Guthrie Green park, 111 E. Brady St. Admission is free and all-ages.

Green Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery will hold its annual Memorial Day program on May 27, 2013 @ 11:00 a.m. at the west lawn Veterans Memorial Feature, built and designed by area veterans in 1979.
Hosting the event this year will be the Sapulpa Veterans Organizations. Additional events and activities will include the traditional laying of the wreaths, the National Anthem, the presentation of colors, a military gun salute, TAPS, and the raising of colors to full mast.

FitFest 2013
The Southeast Tulsa Rotary Club presents the 4th annual FitFest on June 1. The primary focus is promoting fitness for elementary school kids and families, but all ages are welcome. There are bicycles given away. A One Mile chip-timed run at 9AM and a Free Fun Run/Walk at 10AM, along with all the other festival events. Kids 6-12 earn medals for taking the President’s Fitness Challenge (sit ups, push ups, running, etc). Also have bouncy houses, bike giveaways, games, and more. Did I mention Human Hamster Balls?

The Rotary Club of Tulsa is presenting its 20th Annual Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards.
This year’s keynote speaker will be one of the top coaching figures in college basketball, John Calipari, the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach. In addition to coaching, Calipari is a humanitarian who used telethons to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake and last year’s Hurricane Sandy. Plus, his foundation has raised millions of dollars to help people in need across the country.

Each year the Oklahoma Safety Council (OSC) hosts the largest safety and health conference in Oklahoma. And so Nimrod’s spring issue is a testament to lasting words, lasting people, and a lasting journal. Join Nimrod in a celebration of all three in a staged reading from the Spring/Summer 2013 issue, Lasting Matters: Writers 57 and Over.
The reading will feature local authors included in the issue and performers reading from Nimrod’s Lasting Matters which includes the writing of literary stars such as Ted Kooser, Stephen Dunn, Ron Wallace, and local favorites including Ivy Dempsey, Deborah Hunter, Fran Ringold, and Cynthia Gustavson. Music and dance will also enliven the readings. The event is free and open to the public. Copies of the issue will be available for sale.
