Yoga Therapy for Cancer adapts traditional Yoga poses and movements to meet individual needs for those living with cancer including anyone in active treatment. Recent research suggests Yoga may decrease symptoms and side effects and increase energy level and general sense of well-being.
Benefits
• Decreased anxiety and depression
• Decreased insomnia
• Decreased pain
• Decreased fatigue
• Improved coping skills
• Improvement in social and emotional well-being
Each class in the series will include learning postures and gentle movements in the chair, breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as imagery and meditation. We will also discuss the physiological changes that happen during such practices so as to understand why they are so effective. We will also discuss Yoga philosophy and the rationales for using adaptive Yoga practices to enhance physical and emotional wellness during the cancer journey.

CANPrevent Colorectal Cancer
Patient and Family Events
Free and Open to the Public.
Colorectal cancer rates have been decreasing for the past ten years. The decline has been attributed to increases in the use of colorectal cancer screening tests that allow the detection and removal of colorectal polyps before they progress to cancer.
In some families, there is a gene responsible for a specific hereditary condition that predisposes to colon and other cancers. It is critical to identify such families, sometimes with the assistance of genetic testing. Tailored screening guidelines and cancer risk management strategies for colon and other cancers can be lifesaving.
