Symphony in C

February 4, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. the Gordon Theater at Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts and on Sunday, February 12, 2012 in Philadelphia, Symphony in C and Music Director Rossen Milanov will join Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia. Under the direction of Artistic Director Alan Harler, Mendelssohn Club is one of the oldest choruses in the United States. Rossen Milanov will conduct the concert featuring two masterworks, both famous as breathtaking and unfinished final works. First on the program is Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Premiered 37 years after Schubert’s death, the symphony is one of Schubert’s most beloved works. Mezzo-soprano Margaret Mezzacappa, a second year resident of the Academy of Vocal Arts will join Symphony in C and Mendelssohn Club in performing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s choral masterpiece, the Requiem. New World Symphony will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. The concert begins with the Winner of the 16th Annual Young Composers’ Competition. During its 16 years, this competition has recognized some of the United States’ most successful aspiring young composers, including Dan Coleman, Martin Kennedy, Takuma Itoh, Zhou Tian, Clint Needham, Andrew McPherson and Michael Gilbertson. Next, the Symphony welcomes internationally renowned violinist Augustin Hadelich. A graduate of The Juilliard School Mr. Hadelich has received some of the most prestigious honors in the world including; the 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant, and was a gold medalist of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
