What a great use of old broken crayons that no one wants to use! Encaustic painting is a specific type of painting utilizing hot wax, often beeswax.
Pigments are added and then the wax is applied to a surface. Metal tools and special brushes can be used before the wax cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax that has cooled.

Event Description: The Northwest Fossil Fest is a celebration put on by the North America Research Group (NARG), a nonprofit organization of recreational paleontologists. The Fossil Fest will include talks by leading paleontologists, demonstrations of fossil preparation, and displays of various fossils. Visitors can bring in their fossils for identification help, and admission to the Rice Museum along with the Fossil Fest is free.
