We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. We address a fundamental question in morphogenesis: what are the physical laws that govern the assembly of acinar structures? We report a novel type of human cell motility where single cells undergo multiple rotations. This motion is maintained as the cells cohesively divide to assemble into polarized multicellular spherical structures (acini) when placed in a 3D basement membrane surrogate gel. We visualize the complete evolution from the single cell to an acinus. We link the functional relevance of coherent angular motion (CAMo) to spherical architecture, and determine the importance of molecules involved in cell-cell adhesion and tissue polarity to the outcome. CAMo is observed in both primary human cells and established breast cell lines where the final realized geometry is spherical.

Mindfulness Meditation Drop-in
Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. Mindfulness meditation teaches skills for being in the present moment no matter what the situation. Mindfulness meditation studies show positive outcomes in quality of life and symptoms across a variety of health issues (stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, chronic pain, and cancer). The key to getting the most out of mindfulness is PRACTICE. Mindfulness can be applied to any object of attention. For example, you can focus on your breath, sounds, thoughts, or emotions. You can also be mindful during your daily life activities like eating, cooking, or brushing your teeth.
The goal of this weekly drop-in mindfulness meditation class is to practice many different types of guided mindfulness meditations to experience which ones work best for you. Each week will highlight a different guided mindfulness meditation. No experience is required.

MBSR teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. This course is based on the national model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the UMass Medical Center. Research
A 4-week, noncredit professional development course which will provide advanced training and extensive individual feedback to help you write better grant applications. The writing-intensive course will use examples of successful applications and contributions from class participants to improve grant-writing skills. Topics will include strategic placement of information, improving sentence structure, and revising for clarity and readability. Class sessions are complemented by 4 one-on-one sessions with the instructor to revise and edit the applications that participants are working on. Epidemiology of Aging: The St Louis African American Health Cohort?
ABSTRACT
The African American Health study (AAH) is an NIA-funded cohort study of the predictors of disability now in its 10th year of follow-up. AAH is a multistage probability sample of 998 African Americans aged 59 to 65 years at baseline living in St. Louis, Missouri and in nearby suburbs. There have been three in-person, in-home assessments including interviews and functional measurements. Neighborhood characteristics are a key hypothesized risk factor for decreasing function and increased risk of disability. Dr. Andresen will provide an overview of AAH methods and measures, and key results, specifically functional decline and falling.

AYA Cancer Transitions
For Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) (aged 18-39) affected by cancer. This six-week program will focus on a new area of survivorship each week, providing information on things like tips for healthy eating, how to keep exercise in a busy schedule, and how to take control of survivorship. We’ll also provide tools for working through the emotional and social hurdles faced during the transition period after treatment, as well as give AYAs a chance to connect with others and learn they are not alone.

Marquam Hill Lecture: What do women (and men) want? Next generation birth control and family planning

LECTURE SUMMARY: Despite the widespread availability of contraceptives, birth control methods are used inconsistently or incorrectly and this exposes women to the risk of unintended pregnancy. Reasons for imperfect use include misperceptions about risks and fear of side effects, particularly with hormonal methods. As a physician, Jeffrey Jensen, MD, witnesses firsthand the difficulty his patients experience when dealing with the consequences of unintended pregnancy. These women and their partners inspire his dedication to develop new contraception methods.
Dr. Jensen will talk about next-generation birth control and the race to bring better choices to family planning. Dr. Jensen is the Leon Speroff Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Director of theWomen's Health Research Unit in the Center for Women's Health, and a collaborating scientist at the Oregon National Primate Research Center.

Dr. Jade Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She also has joint faculty appointments in the Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Dept. of Molecular Virology & Microbiology, and the Program in Cell & Molecular Biology. She is also Co-Director of the Graduate Program in Cell and Molecular Biology.
She has been the recipient of several major awards while at Baylor, including the Michael E. DeBakey, M.D. Excellence in Research Award; The American Society for Microbiology Branch Lectureships; the Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award; and the NIH Director's New Innovator Award.
Dr. Wang received her B.Sc. degree from McGill University; her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco; and was a Postdoc at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Organs are spatially organized populations of different cell types working together to carry out higher order functions. Understanding how cells are organized is important for developing the next generation of virtual organs. For example, mapping the distribution of each functional cell type in the lungs can lead to the development of more informative simulations of dose-response. In addition, cluster analysis of the organization of cells and their expressed genes allows for learning more about the functions and relationships of sub-cellular molecular pathways. Over the past decade, new imaging and computational approaches have enabled the development of more comprehensive means for capturing 3D tissue architecture as well as the distribution of cell types and cell functions throughout entire organs, leading to massive amounts of data. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Taught by a nationally certified cancer yoga teacher and assisted by an OHSU oncology nurse and physical therapist.

Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. Mindfulness meditation teaches skills for being in the present moment no matter what the situation. Mindfulness meditation studies show positive outcomes in quality of life and symptoms across a variety of health issues (stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, chronic pain, and cancer). The key to getting the most out of mindfulness is PRACTICE. Mindfulness can be applied to any object of attention. For example, you can focus on your breath, sounds, thoughts, or emotions. You can also be mindful during your daily life activities like eating, cooking, or brushing your teeth.
The goal of this weekly drop-in mindfulness meditation class is to practice many different types of guided mindfulness meditations to experience which ones work best for you. Each week will highlight a different guided mindfulness meditation. No experience is required.

A 4-week, noncredit professional development course which will provide advanced training and extensive individual feedback to help you write better grant applications. The writing-intensive course will use examples of successful applications and contributions from class participants to improve grant-writing skills. OCTRI offers REDCap Tutorials that introduce new users to REDCap.
Tutorial Sessions will provide researchers and their staff with an overview of REDCap capabilities. Attendees will learn how to prepare and create REDCap databases and surveys.
Tutorials are held on the first Thursday and third Monday of each month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Hatfield Research Center Room 10D03. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. Mindfulness meditation teaches skills for being in the present moment no matter what the situation. Mindfulness meditation studies show positive outcomes in quality of life and symptoms across a variety of health issues (stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, chronic pain, and cancer). The key to getting the most out of mindfulness is PRACTICE. Mindfulness can be applied to any object of attention. For example, you can focus on your breath, sounds, thoughts, or emotions. You can also be mindful during your daily life activities like eating, cooking, or brushing your teeth.
The goal of this weekly drop-in mindfulness meditation class is to practice many different types of guided mindfulness meditations to experience which ones work best for you. Each week will highlight a different guided mindfulness meditation. No experience is required.

MBSR teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. This course is based on the national model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the UMass Medical Center. Two decades of published research indicates that the majority of people who complete the course report: Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away, an increased ability to relax, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, improved self-esteem, an increased ability to cope effectively with stressful situations and a lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms.

Mothers of infants 0-6 months are invited to join us at a support group for new moms. Facilitated by an OHSU Childbirth and Early Parenting Educator, topics will include newborn care, breastfeeding, coping strategies, ongoing recovery and more. Get the support you need and connect with other new parents in a safe and nurturing environment.
Please register for the first session you will attend.
The group is free for patients who delivered at OHSU. Moms who delivered outside OHSU will be asked to pay a one-time, $35 fee at their first session.

Come join other women in a supportive environment designed to nourish you. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Taught by a nationally certified cancer yoga teacher and assisted by an OHSU oncology nurses.
Women in any stage of healing from cancer are welcome (at least 6 weeks post-surgery). Registration form and a signed release from your primary cancer care provider are required. Space is limited and a waiting list may apply.
