Since Clarion's last Holiday recording, the professional 14-member brass ensemble has been on tour to Seattle and Portland and added annual Salvation Army Kroc Center Concerts in Coeur d'Alene. Because Clarion premieres music at every concert, there is way too much new music to fit on one disc.
Clarion is asking for votes and input from their fans and the general public on what music they want included on the album, as well as suggestions for the CD's title. The Spokane Arts Commission announces, “HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” group exhibit of unique works of art created by artist/writer teams for collaborative exhibition. This is a reprise of the popular “Get Lit: Telling the American Story” exhibition in 2011. The exhibition will be held in the Chase Gallery, April 2 – July 1, 2013.
The Chase Gallery is located in City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. in Spokane. An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 5, 5 p.m- 8 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. The Spokane Arts Commission announces, “HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” group exhibit of unique works of art created by artist/writer teams for collaborative exhibition. This is a reprise of the popular “Get Lit: Telling the American Story” exhibition in 2011. The exhibition will be held in the Chase Gallery, April 2 – July 1, 2013.
The Chase Gallery is located in City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. in Spokane. An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 5, 5 p.m- 8 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. Melissa Cole often finds herself snorkeling with salmon, smooching manatees, and swimming with tiger sharks. It is from these amazing encounters that she derives much of her inspiration for her vividly colored, heavily textured and patterned acrylic paintings. “Even the Rain” (Spain/Mexico) – As a director and his crew shoot a controversial film about Christopher Columbus in Cochabamba, Bolivia, they encounter local people rising up against plans to privatize the water supply. The uprising closely documents the true events of 2000 when local Bolivians fought for rights to their own water supply. The title of this epic film refers to an actual law the made it illegal for anyone to access water, “even the rain.” The story, a movie inside a movie, reveals parallels between indigenous resistance 500 years ago and today. Calling all cakes … and edible confections of all kinds.
It’s time for Books2Eat, the annual edible book festival sponsored by the JFK Library and a group of volunteer friends of the library.
The all-you-can-eat event takes place 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, in the JFK Library lobby.
This is a just-for-fun event in which faculty, staff, students and members of the public are invited to make and submit something tasty to eat (not needing refrigeration) – but something with a literary theme – and have the items judged for prizes by the hungry attendees. All entries must be in by noon on Books2Eat day. And whether submitting an entry or not – everyone is invited to come and eat the entries.

News that the EPA released a revised Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment and opened a second public comment period was recently published in more than 50 major newspapers. The broad coverage included an AP story that reads: “Build-out of a large-scale mine near the headwaters of a world-class salmon fishery in Alaska could wipe out as many as 90 miles of streams and alter stream flows, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said in a revised assessment released April 26th.” In addition, mining activity would destroy at least 24 miles of streams and up to 4,800 acres of wetland habitat.

In 1863 a traveler could go from the Black Hills of the Dakotas to Lake Pend Oreille – a long and dangerous journey to be sure – and for the whole trip they would be in the Idaho Territory.
The territory, encompassing what are now the states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, was formed during the American Civil War with the blessings of Abraham Lincoln. By 1868 the Idaho Territory would be reduced to the current size of the state. Statehood itself would not come until 1890.
A lecture series marking the 150th anniversary of the Idaho Territory, “The Road to Statehood,” continues in the Community Room at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library through June 27.
The series is offered in conjunction with the featured exhibit at the Museum of North Idaho, 115 Northwest Blvd. “Shaping the Handle: Idaho Territory 1863-1890.” The museum is open through Oct. 31.

Since Clarion's last Holiday recording, the professional 14-member brass ensemble has been on tour to Seattle and Portland and added annual Salvation Army Kroc Center Concerts in Coeur d'Alene. Because Clarion premieres music at every concert, there is way too much new music to fit on one disc.

The Spokane Arts Commission announces, “HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” group exhibit of unique works of art created by artist/writer teams for collaborative exhibition. This is a reprise of the popular “Get Lit: Telling the American Story” exhibition in 2011. The exhibition will be held in the Chase Gallery, April 2 – July 1, 2013.
The Chase Gallery is located in City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. in Spokane. An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 5, 5 p.m- 8 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. A reading by writers in this project will be Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. in the Spokane City Council Chambers, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Spokane, WA as part of the Get Lit! Festival.

Melissa Cole often finds herself snorkeling with salmon, smooching manatees, and swimming with tiger sharks. It is from these amazing encounters that she derives much of her inspiration for her vividly colored, heavily textured and patterned acrylic paintings. Merc Readers' Theater - The Laramie Project
This is a play about the reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming gay student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought attention to the lack of hate crimes laws in various states, including Wyoming. The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theater company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries, and published news reports. It is divided into three acts, and ten actors portray more than sixty characters in a series of short scenes. The cast features Ann Diamond, Jessica Dietz, Joe Marver, Peter Morgan, Patti Watson, Joseph Weaver, Rose Wegant, Mark Wenzel, Cricket Whittaker and Tom Zbyszewski.
A Readers' Theater production of The Laramie Project will be held Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp. Directed by Mark Wenzel. Merc Readers' Theater - The Laramie Project
This is a play about the reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming gay student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought attention to the lack of hate crimes laws in various states, including Wyoming. The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theater company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries, and published news reports. It is divided into three acts, and ten actors portray more than sixty characters in a series of short scenes. The cast features Ann Diamond, Jessica Dietz, Joe Marver, Peter Morgan, Patti Watson, Joseph Weaver, Rose Wegant, Mark Wenzel, Cricket Whittaker and Tom Zbyszewski.
A Readers' Theater production of The Laramie Project will be held Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp. Directed by Mark Wenzel. Music Days Celebration offers a weekend of performance
The Methow Valley will be alive with music May 25 and 26, as Pipestone School of Music presents its annual Music Days Celebration, with a Pipestone Orchestra concert on Saturday evening and an afternoon of student recitals on Sunday.
Pipestone Orchestra, directed by Tara Kaiyala Weaver, will present a program that includes the first movement of Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
Nick Saunders, a graduating high school senior, will perform the third movement from Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G Major. The first movement from Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor will feature Linda Mendro and the Pipestone Jazz Ensemble.
Ten-year-old Keeley Brooks, winner of Pipestone’s Christine Cherrington Merit Award, will perform the Violin Concerto in A minor by Antonio Vivaldi, accompanied by Nancy Acheson, during the evening concert as well.

HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR
The Spokane Arts Commission announces, “HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” group exhibit of unique works of art created by artist/writer teams for collaborative exhibition. This is a reprise of the popular “Get Lit: Telling the American Story” exhibition in 2011. The exhibition will be held in the Chase Gallery, April 2 – July 1, 2013.
The Chase Gallery is located in City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. in Spokane. An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 5, 5 p.m- 8 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. A reading by writers in this project will be Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. in the Spokane City Council Chambers, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Spokane, WA as part of the Get Lit! Festival.
Gallery Hours are Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Melissa Cole often finds herself snorkeling with salmon, smooching manatees, and swimming with tiger sharks. It is from these amazing encounters that she derives much of her inspiration for her vividly colored, heavily textured and patterned acrylic paintings. Her paintings are dreams, a touch of hope for what she wishes upon the earth. As part of her show, Melissa will be working with local youth to create a permanent mosaic on our patio (sponsored by the Coeurd'Alene Tribe)

HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR
The Spokane Arts Commission announces, “HOTEL SPOKANE: HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” group exhibit of unique works of art created by artist/writer teams for collaborative exhibition. This is a reprise of the popular “Get Lit: Telling the American Story” exhibition in 2011. The exhibition will be held in the Chase Gallery, April 2 – July 1, 2013.
The Chase Gallery is located in City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. in Spokane. An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 5, 5 p.m- 8 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. A reading by writers in this project will be Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. in the Spokane City Council Chambers, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Spokane, WA as part of the Get Lit! Festival.
Gallery Hours are Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Test & Tune Reception
Jaremko Sports & Classics, a division of local dealership, Jaremko Nissan, will be hosting the Test & Tune Reception for residents of Spokane, Washington. Legendary racecar driver, Tony Adamowicz, will be in attendance.
During the reception, Adamowicz will be available for a “meet and greet,” signing autographs and mingling with Spokane race fans. The following weekend, Adamowicz will be racing at the Spokane Festival of Speed in a 1969 Porsche 911T. The 911T will be on display during the reception.
Also on display will be a 1969 ex-Ron Grable Formula 5000 car, as well as a 1930s Alfa Romeo Indy 500 (owned by Peter Giddings) and a 1965 427 Cobra.
Paul Jaremko, owner, Jaremko Nissan, will also be racing in the Spokane Festival of Speed (on June 1st and 2nd) in a Datsun Fairlady SPL310 roadster. Back in 1964, Jaremko won an incredible 14 races in this very car.

Since Clarion's last Holiday recording, the professional 14-member brass ensemble has been on tour to Seattle and Portland and added annual Salvation Army Kroc Center Concerts in Coeur d'Alene. Because Clarion premieres music at every concert, there is way too much new music to fit on one disc.
Clarion is asking for votes and input from their fans and the general public on what music they want included on the album, as well as suggestions for the CD's title. Spokane Wood Carvers 12th Annual Rendezvous
The rendezvous is 2 ½ days of fun, food, carving and friendship. A great list of instructors will offer classes at very minimal cost for wood. Past classes have included chip carving, cottonwood bark carving, reliefs, animals and humans in the round, walking sticks, woodburning (bring your woodburner) and more. The event is open to all carvers from beginners to experts and to those interested in becoming carvers. A potluck will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and a barbecue at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As always, the raffle will provide you with an opportunity to take home lots of valuable items. Tools and sharpening will also be available.
