Guests can also see how moon jelly polyps are being cultured right at the aquarium. Trickling water from a two-sided water wall inside the exhibit adds to the experience. The wall, sponsored by Aquarion Water Company, features streams of water running over hand-blown glass fish and jellies created by renowned local artist Jeffery P’an of Prescient Studios in Stonington. Friday, February 17, 2012, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Mystic Aquarium, 55 Coogan Blvd. Mystic, CT 06355.

Resident Canada Goose Abatement & Available NRCS Funding

Class/Instructional The Next Round of Free and Informative Workshops on Canada Goose Abatement and available NRCS Funding will be held on: February 20th, 21st and 22nd. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, geese also produce heavy concentrations of fecal droppings which can lead to excess nutrient enrichment of ponds and lakes. The additional nutrients then lead to excessive plant growth such as algae and other nuisance plants. Rapid increases in algae can then limit the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water for other aquatic organisms. These large, dense geese populations also pose a risk to other species of birds through transmission of avian diseases. Jellies: The Ocean in Motion

Community Event Immerse yourself in a world of jellies. From the outside, this new exhibit at Mystic Aquarium resembles a 20-foot-tall sea nettle floating on water. Under its dome, special lighting showcases the fascinating features of six very different jelly species, from moon jellies, often spotted in Long Island Sound, to unusual upside-down jellies and comb jellies, which look like they have electrical currents running through them. Saturday, March 3, 2012, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Mystic Aquarium, 55 Coogan Blvd. Mystic, CT 06355.
