Two beloved American icons come to life in this interactive exhibit for children. The exhibit encourages families to spend time together outdoors and inspires children to discover and care for the natural resources that sustain our world. Geared for ages 2-8, the exhibit lets children explore the pretend forest, nature trail, ranger's station, campsite, bridge, urban forest and more through props. costumes, puppets and other open-ended play opportunities. Smokey Bear is perhaps one of the most recognized symbols for his wildfire prevention message; while Woodsy Owl's message covers multiple areas of conservation.The exhibit was created by the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service. British Naval Historian Brian Lavery To Speak at OPSail 2012 Virginia
Brian Lavery, one of the world’s leading authorities on the sailing fighting ship, is traveling to the United States and specifically Virginia from Greenwich, United Kingdom to discuss “In Nelson’s Shadow: The Royal Navy in 1812.” His discussion of the War of 1812 from the perspective of the Royal Navy, considered at the time the most powerful navy in the world, promises to be compelling and informative.
Operation Sail, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 1961 with the endorsement of President John F. Kennedy. Backed by a Joint Congressional Resolution, its mission is to advance sail training and promote goodwill among nations. Smokey Bear is perhaps one of the most recognized symbols for his wildfire prevention message; while Woodsy Owl's message covers multiple areas of conservation.The exhibit was created by the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.
