Baby Basics

In this course topics include a review of immediate newborn care and testing procedures, an explanation of the six principle needs of infants, basic instruction on bathing, diapering and swaddling, as well as a visit from a pediatrician who will discuss newborn care and concerns. Diabetes Education The gestational diabetes class will teach everything that you need to know to manage your gestational diabetes in one class. The Registered Dietitian will design a meal plan just for you and review the healthy eating plan. You will learn how to monitor your blood sugar and will be given a blood glucose meter. The nurse educator will review gestational diabetes, exercise, prevention of type 2 diabetes, medications and insulin skills. We will follow-up with you over the phone in a week after the class to discuss your progress with the diet and blood sugar numbers. The patient may bring a support person to the class. Diabetes Education This is a one- time class that will teach the patient about pre-diabetes. Topics include an overview of pre diabetes and how to make small changes for big differences in preventing or delaying the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Diet, exercise, stress reduction and medical conditions such as HTN will be addressed. The patient’s A1C is less than 6.5%.
