KITSAP AUDUBON SOCIETY MEETING

Program: Marbled Murrelets: Why This Bird Matters to Us Presented by Maria Ruth. She will share tales from her book, ‘Rare Bird: Pursuing the Mystery of the Marbled Murrelet’ which celebrates the world of this fascinating seabird of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Maria highlights the bizarre behavior of the murrelet, the 185 year long search for its elusive nest, and how the accidental discovery of the first nest in 1974 has helped protect our coastal forests and near shore waters where the murrelet lives. While unraveling many mysteries, Maria found herself exploring larger questions: Why does this chunky little bird matter to us? Why and how we care about the murrelet? Do we have a moral obligation to save this bird? Maria Mudd Ruth is on the Black Hills Audubon Conservation Program and a volunteer for the Nisqually Reach Aquatic Reserve and South Sound Pigeon Guillemot Breeding Survey.... which sadly, does not have an acronym, but involves a cousin of the marbled murrelet. John Mark McMillan in Concert

Join us for a night of worship with John Mark McMillan in Concert. John Mark is a singer/songwriter interested in musical exploration as well as lyrical exploration, McMillan carved his own path from the outset. With an ear for melody and a poet’s eye for metaphor, no topic was off-limits: death and love; isolation and exultation; restlessness and silence. And always consistent- McMillan carries an ongoing dialogue with God, ever-wrestling for some kind of blessing and usually at volumes most suited for rock clubs. Now ten long years in, McMillan has released Borderland, his fourth studio album and arguably his finest. Category: Arts & Entertainment. Music. Audience: Kids. Teens. Singles. College Students. Steptember

Hi, My name is Kelly and I am a mother of a son with Cerebral Palsy and one of the founders of The Determined Parents Foundation. We are asking our community to help us support kids and adults living with disabilities by joining the charity event Steptember (www.steptembernw.org)! For the month of September we are challenging teams of 4 to walk, run or roll 10,000 "steps" a day while raising funds and awareness for people living with disabilities. All proceeds go to Provail (www.provail.org) and The Determined Parents Foundation (www.thedeterminedparentsfoundation.org) to help people with special needs recieve the therapies that they desperately need. Our hope is to engage our community to come together and get active while supporting those who can't. We are ending Steptember with an "awareness climb" to the summit of Mt. Rainier that will be completed by myself and my co-founder of The Determined Parents Foundation. Thank you for your time and please let me know if you have any questions.
