Because I Said So!
CULTIVATE THE CONNECTIONS YOUR CHILDREN NEED TO ACCEPT NOT GETTING THEIR WAY
Children need their care-givers’ support to navigate the full range of their feelings. Contrary to popular culture, looking for our children’s buy-in using a negotiating approach is not only draining and exhausting for care-givers, it’s also not what our children need developmentally. Despite the discomfort—theirs and ours—our children need to feel sadness and disappointment to build resiliency and to mature.
In this presentation, Cindy will discuss how to become the parents that our children need. She’ll talk about how to simultaneously be an agent of futility, setting boundaries and saying “no,” and an angel of comfort, offering compassion for their upset feelings.
In this presentation you will discover:
* Find out how to reclaim your dignity and power to parent.
* Understand the critical role sadness and tears play in your child’s development.
* Learn how to help your child accept no for an answer.
* Discover the keys t…

2-Day Japanese Temari Workshop
This class is an introduction to the ancient Japanese art of Temari. Originally made as a toy and from the silk threads of old kimonos, these decorative hand-stitched balls make wonderful gifts and collectibles today. The temari design (see photo) for this class was created so students would learn a multitude of basic stitching techniques in a comprehensive 2- day session. Once students learn how to make a temari base, mark a simple division and apply the various stitching elements in class, they will have a good foundation for stitching other temari designs. Instructor Kathy Hewitt received Master/teacher (Shihan) certification from the Japan Temari Association located in Tokyo, Japan in 2009.

There is no denying the incredible growth in the production and enjoyment of artisan cheeses in the US, but how does this popularity fit into the larger picture of creating a food civilization that can sustain itself? Cheesemaker and author Gianaclis Caldwell, Pholia Farm Creamery, offers some insight as to the role that cheesemakers and consumers today can play in being a part of a food movement that becomes a food culture. Join in the discussion and taste some of Pholia Farm’s Slow Food Presidium recognized cheeses.
