Frank Portman- King Dork

Since its release in 2006, King Dork, Frank Portman's original novel about a geeky teenage boy dealing with the tortures and humiliations of high school—all while trying to solve a half a dozen mysteries (including the one surrounding his father's death), track down a mysterious girl he met at a party, and start a rock band—has become a cult classic. What makes King Dork even more fun is that Portman recorded five of the book's original songs, as if he were Tom, the book's main character. If we're lucky, Portman might even perform a few when he joins us for a reading and signing of the hilarious pop culture critique and heartfelt story that put him on the map. Who knows? He might also give us a sneak peek of the King Dork sequel due out later this year! Category: Arts & Entertainment. Audience: Teens. Dads. Moms. Cost: Free. In Christopher Sandford's new book, the acclaimed biographer draws from personal letters and telegrams, private communications during political crises, and even birthday greetings to give readers a behind-the-scenes look at the unique relationship between British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and American President John F. Kennedy. Set amid critical events like the Cuban Missile Crisis and the construction of the Berlin Wall, the account is both an intimate portrait of the two men and a fascinating look into the history their relationship helped shape. Joining us for a reading and signing this fall, Sandford will give us an even deeper look into Macmillan and Kennedy's special relationship and how their work together helped bring order out of chaos in an age of precarious balance. The History of Carnation Farms

THE HISTORY OF CARNATION FARMS Elbridge H. Stuart III, Owner and Managing Director of Carnation Farms LLC Great grandson of founder Elbridge Amos Stuart. Carnation milk and its many other products were a staple for customers worldwide throughout the 1900s. That international brand name (now under Nestle management) has its roots in the neighboring town of Carnation. Elbridge Amos Stuart started Carnation Farms in 1908 on 360 acres along the Snoqualmie River in order to ensure a supply of high quality milk to the evaporated milk company that he had started nine years earlier. His great grandson will highlight the history of the founder, the farm and the company from a family perspective. He’ll also share how his great grandfather’s philanthropic legacy is still alive now that the grounds have been made available to Camp Korey, a nonprofit that provides seriously ill children a place to have fun and just be kids.
