To Kill A Mockingbird

Theatre Black Dog is proud to announce the second play of its season, Christopher Sergel’s dramatic adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. To Kill a Mockingbird, is Harper Lee’s autobiographical story of young Scout’s evolution from the innocence of childhood to the recognition of the injustices of the adult world, as told by her adult self, Jean Louise, as she goes back in time to a very special summer in Maycomb, Alabama, 1935; when her father, Atticus Finch, defended a man wrongly accused of a terrible crime. The relevance of this classic story of one man’s struggle for justice is applicable to today with its power of telling the tale through the compassionate questioning eyes of the children, as they witness Atticus Finch’s lone struggle for justice alongside his deep love and commitment to his children. On Thursday May 19 at 6pm, the Open Space Conservancy Trust board will be hosting a forum on dogs in Pioneer Park as part of its regularly scheduled meeting. Each speaker will have three minutes to present their ideas and opinions. The Trust board will be considering a range of options for dog owners who walk their dogs in the northwest quadrant. Currently the Mercer Island City Code allows dogs to be on-leash or under voice or signal control in the northwest quadrant of Pioneer Park as well as in most other parks and public open spaces. However, the Code requires owners of dogs under voice or signal control to restrain their dogs from approaching other park users and prevent them from damaging park property.
