Cast Off! - Free Public Sail
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats.
The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter, Amie, a Friendship sloop, Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie, our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic.
Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Year round, the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise will depart on the hour 11am through 4pm from Lake Union Park. This is a 45-50 minute tour of the Lake Union floating homes, a peek at Dale Chihuly's studio, Gas Works Park and the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat. The tour includes a humorous narration of old Seattle and some funky background music. Adults $11, Seniors $10, Kids 5-13 $7, under 5 $2. Pets OK. Walk-on only, tickets available on boarding, cash or check only. Ice cream treats, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks, $2 to $4.

Museum Ship: Visit Tugboat Arthur Foss
Northwest Seaport
Welcome aboard the museum ship Arthur Foss. Built in 1889 to tow sailing ships into the Columbia River, she also towed ships and barges to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and came to Puget Sound as a logging tugboat. As a Foss Launch & Tug Company tugboat, Arthur Foss gained distinction as the star of the 1934 MGM movie “Tugboat Annie,” one of the most powerful tugboats on the West Coast, and the last vessel to escape Wake Island before the Japanese invasion. Now, Arthur Foss continues her career as a heritage vessel. Step onboard to learn about the working life of a tugboat and her crew.

Maritime Heritage Hero Award

Northwest Seaport is honored to present the Maritime Heritage Hero Award on Thursday, May 30, 2013 aboard the historic steamship Virginia V, dockside at the Historic Ships Wharf at Lake Union Park in Seattle.
This ticketed event runs from 5:30 to 8:00 pm and includes hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer (follow link)
Board members of Northwest Seaport will present Flo Lentz with the Maritime Heritage Hero Award for being an instrumental facilitator of the Maritime Heritage Initiative, which led to the cooperation and integration of the various maritime heritage groups in the Northwest. Her tireless efforts to promote maritime heritage and to foster congeniality among the disparate groups was key to the Maritime Heritage Initiative. Through that, 4Culture worked to establish the Maritime Heritage Alliance, which includes The Center for Wooden Boats, Coastal Heritage Alliance, Historic Seattle, Northwest Seaport, The Steamer Virginia V Foundation, and the Museum of History Industry.

Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats.
The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter, Amie, a Friendship sloop, Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie, our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic.
Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Year round, the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise will depart on the hour 11am through 4pm from Lake Union Park. This is a 45-50 minute tour of the Lake Union floating homes, a peek at Dale Chihuly's studio, Gas Works Park and the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat. The tour includes a humorous narration of old Seattle and some funky background music. Adults $11, Seniors $10, Kids 5-13 $7, under 5 $2. Pets OK. Museum Ship: Visit Tugboat Arthur Foss
Northwest Seaport
Welcome aboard the museum ship Arthur Foss. Built in 1889 to tow sailing ships into the Columbia River, she also towed ships and barges to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and came to Puget Sound as a logging tugboat. As a Foss Launch & Tug Company tugboat, Arthur Foss gained distinction as the star of the 1934 MGM movie “Tugboat Annie,” one of the most powerful tugboats on the West Coast, and the last vessel to escape Wake Island before the Japanese invasion. Now, Arthur Foss continues her career as a heritage vessel. Step onboard to learn about the working life of a tugboat and her crew.

In 1981, Seattle drag racer Al Young drove a 1970 Dodge Challenger to win the American Hot Rod Association’s World Championship. Now, that car is part of MOHAI’s collection, and this summer, will be put on display in the museum’s Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium. Celebrate the Dodge Challenger’s debut and kick off summer at this special program for all ages. Several times throughout the day, Al Young will talk about his 25 years racing the Challenger and share stories from the track, and MOHAI’s Family Lab will feature race-car themed activities.

Built in 1889 to tow sailing ships into the Columbia River, she also towed ships and barges to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and came to Puget Sound as a logging tugboat. As a Foss Launch & Tug Company tugboat, Arthur Foss gained distinction as the star of the 1934 MGM movie “Tugboat Annie,” one of the most powerful tugboats on the West Coast, and the last vessel to escape Wake Island before the Japanese invasion. Now, Arthur Foss continues her career as a heritage vessel. Step onboard to learn about the working life of a tugboat and her crew.

Cast Off! - Free Public Sail
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats.
The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter, Amie, a Friendship sloop, Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie, our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic.
Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
The 37th Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival kicks off this year on the 4th of July, and runs a full 4 days. The Wooden Boat Festival is designed to celebrate the maritime heritage of Seattle, and get people out on the water on historic wooden boats. There’s nothing stuffy about CWB and its wooden boat festival! This is an old-fashioned, down-home waterfront festival were everything is fun and almost everything is free.
The 2013 Festival will include: visiting vessels, boat tours, free public boat rides on Lake Union, activities for kids including toy boat building and a scavenger hunt, craft and skill demonstrations, food vendors, live music, and a 24 hour boat building race called the Quick and Daring. Teams have 24-hours to build their boats, and if they don’t do a good job...who knows if it will hold together during the race…or sink. New in 2013 will be the Cordless Challenge Races, where competitors will power their boats with cordless drills.

Cast Off! - Free Public Sail
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats.
The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter, Amie, a Friendship sloop, Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie, our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic.
Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Year round, the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise will depart on the hour 11am through 4pm from Lake Union Park. This is a 45-50 minute tour of the Lake Union floating homes, a peek at Dale Chihuly's studio, Gas Works Park and the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat. The tour includes a humorous narration of old Seattle and some funky background music. Adults $11, Seniors $10, Kids 5-13 $7, under 5 $2. Pets OK. Welcome aboard the museum ship Arthur Foss. Built in 1889 to tow sailing ships into the Columbia River, she also towed ships and barges to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and came to Puget Sound as a logging tugboat. As a Foss Launch & Tug Company tugboat, Arthur Foss gained distinction as the star of the 1934 MGM movie “Tugboat Annie,” one of the most powerful tugboats on the West Coast, and the last vessel to escape Wake Island before the Japanese invasion. Now, Arthur Foss continues her career as a heritage vessel. Step onboard to learn about the working life of a tugboat and her crew.

Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Cast Off! - Free Public Sail
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats.
The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter, Amie, a Friendship sloop, Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie, our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic.
Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock. Reservations are taken day-of-sail only at the CWB front desk. This is a popular activity so please arrive early to reserve a spot, we open at 10am. Rides are always at 2pm, and sometimes also at 3pm.

Visiting Vessel: Fremont Avenue Ferry
Year round, the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise will depart on the hour 11am through 4pm from Lake Union Park. This is a 45-50 minute tour of the Lake Union floating homes, a peek at Dale Chihuly's studio, Gas Works Park and the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat. The tour includes a humorous narration of old Seattle and some funky background music. Adults $11, Seniors $10, Kids 5-13 $7, under 5 $2. Pets OK. Walk-on only, tickets available on boarding, cash or check only. Ice cream treats, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks, $2 to $4.

Museum Ship: Visit Tugboat Arthur Foss
Northwest Seaport
Welcome aboard the museum ship Arthur Foss. Built in 1889 to tow sailing ships into the Columbia River, she also towed ships and barges to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush and came to Puget Sound as a logging tugboat. As a Foss Launch & Tug Company tugboat, Arthur Foss gained distinction as the star of the 1934 MGM movie “Tugboat Annie,” one of the most powerful tugboats on the West Coast, and the last vessel to escape Wake Island before the Japanese invasion. Now, Arthur Foss continues her career as a heritage vessel. Step onboard to learn about the working life of a tugboat and her crew.

Tugboat Storytime
The Center for Wooden Boats - South Lake Union
Storytime aboard the Arthur Foss (a 100-year-old tug boat) features stories about boats, kids and the sea. Geared for ages two through five, but also fun for adults! After stories, there is time to explore the boat. This is an indoor/outdoor activity, please dress accordingly.
We are sorry we are unable to accommodate preschool groups - please call about scheduling a group visit.
