Empty Bowls Gourmet Annual Fundraiser
Over 400 community members and supporters of North Helpline are expected On Sunday, May 19th, 2013, for its 4th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. The event will be held in the Commons at Nathan Hale, from noon to 3:00PM. Local restaurants will serve delicious soup, salad, bread, and dessert in uniquely crafted bowls. Local musicians will also provide lively entertainment. A hallmark of this event that our supporters look forward to each year is the silent auction.
We met our fundraising goal at last year's Empty Bowls event, which enabled us to help keep our neighbors' families fed and housed who were in need. This year our goal is to build on last year's success to help us meet the rapidly growing need in our community.
Tickets prices are $25 through North Helpline or our ticket provider (here), or $35 at the door. Doors open at noon.

The Mountaineers Players present Narnia at the magical Kitsap Forest Theater in Bremerton
BREMERTON, WA – The tradition of outdoor theater is alive and well at the Kitsap Forest Theater, and continues this spring with Narnia (The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe). Each weekend from Memorial Day through Father’s Day, the Mountaineers Players will present this classic adventure with music, dance and exciting battles at 2:00 pm. Both residents of the Kitsap Peninsula and visitors from Seattle and beyond will delight in this family-friendly production at the beautiful Kitsap Forest Theater, located just west of Bremerton.
A quarter-mile trail transports visitors to another time and place where stories for all ages have come to life since 1923. The presentation of our spring show coincides with the blooming of the wild rhododendrons that grow along the hillsides and down the trail to the theater. Generations of theatergoers have enjoyed the scenic drive or ferry ride to the theater, and often come early to picnic under the firs before the trail to the theater opens at 1:00 pm.

Nuclear Arms Reductions: The Opportunity to Strengthen U.S. Security
What is the future of the U.S- Russia nuclear arms negotiations? What are the key nuclear arms control challenges facing president Obama? What are some practical policy recommendations to reducing nuclear arms and missile defense?
Join us for an evening with Ambassador Steven Pifer.
Although the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) signed in 2010 will cut U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear forces to their lowest levels in 50 years, more can be done to reduce nuclear weapons levels—including reserve and non-strategic weapons, which thus far are not constrained by treaty. Ambassador Steven Pifer of the Brookings Institution, co-author of The Opportunity: Next Steps in Reducing Nuclear Arms, will discuss why further nuclear weapons reductions would enhance U.S. and global security, offer recommendations for specific actions, and describe the challenges that must be overcome to implement those recommendations.
