Unity, Leaders in Hospice and Palliative Care, is looking for individuals who are willing to share a little of their time to make a big difference in the lives of others. Volunteers assist patients and their families by providing respite for families, companionship and support for patients, transporting patients and even easing some of the daily activity burdens of light housekeeping and meal preparation. Daytime, evening and weekend opportunities are available. Volunteers receive initial and continual training to ensure that they feel comfortable in any volunteer roles they wish to become involved. Lawrence University Jazz Celebration Weekend Presents the Wisconsin Homegrown Jazz Quintet

This quintet features artists born and raised in Wisconsin. Brian Lynch (trumpet) grew up in Milwaukee and is recognized as one of the premier jazz trumpet artists in the world today. Joel Frahm (tenor sax) was born in Racine and was recently selected in DownBeat magazine’s Critics Poll as a Rising Star in the tenor saxophone category. Geoff Keezer (piano) was born in Eau Claire and has performed and recorded with numerous artists as both leader and accompanist. Ike Sturm (bass) was born in Appleton and currently serves as the music director for jazz at Saint Peter’s Church (the “Jazz Church”) in Manhattan. Zach Harmon (drums) was raised in Winneconne and has performed worldwide. The group will play as part of Lawrence University's Jazz Celebration Weekend. Tickets for adults range from $20-$22. Walid's great grandfather, Abdullah Ali Awad-Allah, was also a fighter and close associate of both Abdul Qader and Haj Amin Al-Husseini, who led the Palestinians against Israel. Walid lived through and witnessed Israel’s Six Day War while living in Jericho.
As a young man, he became a member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and participated in acts of terror and violence against Israel, and was later imprisoned in the Russian Compound, Jerusalem's central prison for incitement and violence against Israel.
After his release, he continued his life of violence and rioting in Bethlehem and the Temple Mount. After entering the U.S, he worked as a counselor for the Arab Student Organization at Loop College in Chicago and continued his anti-Isra…

The Fox Valley Symphony is proud to announce the 35th Anniversary season of the Youth Orchestras program. We will begin our celebration with a Fall Concert which will feature the Youth Symphony and Philharmonia Strings on Sunday, November 8 at 4:30 pm in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. This will be the first performance of their season and will feature some of the finest young musicians in the valley!
General seating tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and are will be available at the Fox Valley Symphony office and Heid Music beginning October 5th. They will also be available in the Chapel lobby on the afternoon of the concert.

On November 10th, Tuesday at 7pm The Packerland Theatre Organ Society will present “An Evening With Laurel and Hardy” at the fully restored movie palace, the Meyer Theater in downtown Green Bay, WI, with its historical Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ.. During the 1920’s Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were paired up by Hal Roach to make short silent comedy films, covering all sorts of subjects and situations. Veterans Day Services will be held Nov. 11 at the entrance of the Winnebago County Courthouse. The service will begin at 10:40 a.m. with a short procession of the Colors. Tony Blando, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Retired, will be the guest speaker. Memorial wreaths will be placed at the entrance of the courthouse and the ceremony will conclude with a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps” at approximately 11:00 a.m. Veterans’ units planning to participate should arrive at 10:15 a.m.
This annual event is sponsored by the Oshkosh Patriotic Council, which is composed of representatives from Oshkosh area veterans’ and patriotic organizations.
“Armistice Day” was established in 1938 as a day dedicated to world peace and to honor World War I veterans. The date commemorates the armistice that was signed by the Allies and Germany and that took effect at the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. In 1954, the name was changed to “Veterans Day” to honor American veterans of all wars.

Set up like a traditional market with many booths, the Alternative Giving Fair features “alternative gifts,” aimed at helping more than 40 national and international humanitarian projects focused on saving lives and preserving our planet. Each gift is accompanied by a card which is given to the recipient, informing them of the alternative gift purchased in their honor. The fair also will include tangible gifts created by artisans in developing countries such as tapestries, mugs and jewelry. These products are provided by Globally Sound, a local Fair Trade store.
