Join us to welcome to our bookstore David K. Dodd, co-author (with Harvey K. Rowe) of the thrilling true crime story 'Furnace Murder.' This event is open to all and all are welcome to hang out and have some refreshments and discuss one of the great modern mysteries of our state. Publisher synopsis: "The brutal murder of a frail, 85-year-old woman catapulted Sturgeon Bay, WI, into the national spotlight in 1948. The small town was unaccustomed to violent crime and unprepared for the media circus that followed. Justice was swift—the killer was captured, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison, all within twenty days. Still, mysteries surrounding the murder persist even today. 'Furnace Murder' unfolds through the eyes of 14-year-old Harvey Rowe, son of the local sheriff, who lived in the family’s quarters in the county jail." Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn

America's first-couple of the banjo, Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, make a rare joint performance on the Weidner stage. Through a career that has taken him all over the musical map, Fleck, a 15-time Grammy winner, has virtually reinvented the sound of the banjo by taking it far into the horizon, where be-bop, jazz, classical, and bluegrass meld together in a surprising wash of color and light. Washburn, on the other hand, has taken a revelatory approach to American old-time music, pairing venerable folk elements with far-flung sounds to create a music that is both strangely familiar and unlike anything heard before. Fleck and Washburn will be playing music they developed as a couple in informal settings, a mix of traditional and original songs and tunes. Tickets start at $37.50. For tickets call 1-800-895-0071 or go to www.weidnercenter.com. Sunday, February 22, 2015, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Weidner Center for the Performing Arts 2420 Niclolet Dr Green Bay, WI 54311.
