Diabetes Support Group

ThedaCare and other local health care, educational and church organizations have joined forces to create the Fox Valley Diabetes Education and Support Group, which is free and open to people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and their loved ones. The group, aimed at supporting, uplifting, guiding and encouraging diabetes patients, will meet for the first time on Thurs. Jan. 14, at Fox Valley Technical College.
“This support group gives those impacted by diabetes the opportunity to network with each other and learn together on an ongoing basis,” said Lori Hartz, ThedaCare’s manager of clinical nutrition and diabetes education. “Participants will be exposed to all the healthcare resources available to them in the area so they’ll know where to turn for information, supplies and support.”

The Fond du Lac Police Department is currently accepting applications for its Citizen's Police Academy that will start on April 1, 2010.
The Citizen's Police Academy is a program designed to give participants a working knowledge of the Fond du Lac Police Department. It is not a "training" class, but it is an exciting informational class. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the Fond du Lac Police Department.
The Citizen's Academy program was designed under the premise that an informed community is a safer community. Informed and educated citizens will be more supportive of police officers and the Department, and they will be more proactive within their own neighborhoods.
The Citizen's Academy consists of a series of classes and discussions held once a week on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It is hoped that all graduates of this class will get to know more about the men and women who are protecting their community and why they make the decisions they do while performing that duty.

Charity basketball game to benefit Littlest Tumor Foundation
The Town of Menasha Police and Fire Departments will be taking on one another on the basketball court to benefit the Littlest Tumor Foundation. This game, dubbed “Guns & Hoses” will be this Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 3pm at the UW Fox Valley gymnasium. In lieu of an admission, a “fill the boot” donation will be accepted at the door. In addition to the basketball game, there will be halftime entertainment, displays of police and fire vehicles and refreshments will be available.
The Littlest Tumor Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a preventative therapy and treatment for tumor growth in children and provides wellness scholarships to families dealing with Neurofibromatosis. Henri's Music and the Omro School Bands proudly present the University of Wisconsin Varsity Band under the direction of professor Mike Leckrone, Monday, March 15th in the Omro High School Gym at 7pm. This is the nationally renowned Wisconsin Badger Band that performs at Camp Randall Stadium, in the Kohl Center and on PBS.

The Taste of Ashwaubenon will be held March 17th, 2010 at the Tundra Lodge Conference Center. This is a fundraiser for the Jaguar Backers Booster Club. Appleton Area Hockey Association is hosting their "Monsters-On-Ice" Festival March 20-21, 2010 at the Appleton Family Ice Center 1717 East Witzke Boulevard, Appleton, WI. More than 150 boys and girls ages 4-9 will be living out their hockey dreams.
Several Wisconsin teams will be playing including nine from Appleton and two from the Fox Valley as well as teams from Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Janesville, and Tomahawk. The Festival is a chance for the

Downtown Appleton has always been known for some great music, and Fun Luvin' in the 90s was no exception. Many bands in the Fox Valley got their start playing at the coffee shop where their high school friends came to see the shows. This ecumenical production presents the story of Jesus life through song, dance and dramatic scenes. Witness the baptism by John, the calling of the disciples, His crucifixion and glorious resurrection. We are proud that this inspiring drama can be shared by family members of all ages.
Tickets are $9 adults, $8 Seniors and $5 for all children under 18.

Opening night will be March 19, 2010 at 7:00p. Shows will follow on March 20 at 2:00p and 7:00p, March 21 at 2:00p, March 26 at 7:00p, March 27 at 2:00p and 7:00p, and March 28 at 2:00p. Tickets for the show are $10.00 for Adults (age 18-64), $8.00 for Seniors Citizens (age 65 and older) & Children (age 5-17), and Children age 4 & under are free. Dinner shows are also available on March 20 & 27. Dinner show tickets are $25.00 per person and include: your ticket to the show, family style chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, dinner rolls, dessert, milk and coffee. Beer, wine and soda are sold separately. You must reserve your dinner show tickets by March 13 for the show on March 19, and by March 21 for the show on March 27. Dinner is served at 6:00p both nights, followed by the show at 7:00p. To reserve your tickets for any of the shows call the box office at (920) 826-5852 and leave a message.
