Grab your binoculars, hip boots and discover the hidden treasures of nature living in and along the Mississippi River.
Learn and perform field and laboratory techniques used by scientists studying the Upper Mississippi River. Collect and identify macroinvertebrates, the small "critters" living in the mud and swimming in the water. Identify and learn about aquatic plants, trees, reptiles and amphibians of the floodplain forest. Observe and identify birds and the nests they make. Simulate tracking animals with radio transmitters. Navigate the forest and prairie using Global Positioning System, aerial photographs and land maps.

Learn Spanish through games, short stories, songs and other activities that build skills and interest in learning about the language and culture.
The program’s differentiated instruction challenges each child’s current level of knowledge. Three groups of learners will be formed based on age and skill level. (Adjustments may be made to ensure appropriate placement.)
Program Director: Jean Janecki, assistant professor of Spanish, UW-La Crosse, earned her Ph.D. from UW-Madison. Janecki has been teaching Spanish for over 15 years at different levels in the U.S. She has lived, studied, worked and traveled throughout Spain and South America. As a mother and teacher, she knows the importance of learning another language at an early age and being exposed to new cultures.

Join Bob Wingate and Richard Frost to visit the new Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Visitor’s Center in Onalaska, Wis. The onsite staff will present a program for our members in the new visual media room. The wildlife displays will be viewed, followed by a short guided walk to view the prairie. We will meet at the Visitor Center, located near the junction of County Roads Z and ZN on Brice Prairie (N5727 County Road Z). If a ride is needed, please let us know at time of registration.

The Pump House Regional Arts Center recognizes volunteers who help present gallery exhibitions with a show called “Team Works.” It is no surprise that many of these dedicated workers are also talented artists, working in a variety of styles and media. These artist/volunteers certainly aren’t “square,” but the art in this exhibition will be, with all pieces being in that format. Three dimensional work will include a square or cube in the composition.

Grandparents University is a program of Winona State University's Retiree Center. It brings together grandparents and grandchildren aged 8 to 14 for a two-day dynamic intergenerational learning experience. You will select a major of study that piques your interest and participate in four class sessions over two days. You will stay in Winona State’s newest residence hall, attend classes taught by Winona State University professors, dine in the cafeteria and make memories that last a lifetime!

Many book groups have read Nancy Horans’s bestseller, Loving Frank, a novel based on the tragic romance of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Chicago socialite Mamah Borthwick. Now the Taliesin Organization has developed a specialized tour about Taliesin during the years Wright and Mamah spent there. The tour includes readings from the book by our professional staff while visitors enjoy Wright’s living room, with a stop at the Unity Chapel cemetery to see Mamah’s final resting place. Lunch follows in the Riverview Terrace Cafe, located within the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. Lunch will be the chicken salad sandwich (pulled white chicken salad with red grapes, walnuts and crumbled blue cheese) with Mediterranean pasta salad, beverage and brownies — dietary requests will be accommodated.

The Pump House Regional Arts Center recognizes volunteers who help present gallery exhibitions with a show called “Team Works.” It is no surprise that many of these dedicated workers are also talented artists, working in a variety of styles and media. The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts SummerStage presents Little Shop of Horrors, a hysterically funny musical satire of “B” movies, science fiction, and of course, musical comedy itself.
Little Shop of Horrors, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, will show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday June 27 through Saturday, June 29 and Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 with matinee performances at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30 and July 7 in Toland Theatre in the Center for the Arts at 16th and Vine streets.
A doo-wop spoof of 1950s sci-fi disaster movies, Little Shop of Horrors follows the misadventures of Seymour, a down-and-out floral assistant who longs to get the girl of his dreams and escape life on skid row. When a plant from outer-space turns up in Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists shop, Seymour decides to nurse the drooping plant back to health and name it Audrey II in honor of the woman he secretly loves. Mysteriously, an accidental finger prick excites Audrey II, and Seymour realizes the plant needs…

The Pump House Regional Arts Center recognizes volunteers who help present gallery exhibitions with a show called “Team Works.” It is no surprise that many of these dedicated workers are also talented artists, working in a variety of styles and media. These artist/volunteers certainly aren’t “square,” but the art in this exhibition will be, with all pieces being in that format. Three dimensional work will include a square or cube in the composition.
