Deepening Spiritual Presence with the Enneagram

Dance for HOPE

General Events The La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative is planning a Dance for Hope on Saturday, March 28th, 2015 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Radisson Ballroom at the Radisson Hotel in downtown La Crosse, located at 200 2nd St. North. Friends of Sister Thea: Sharing the Joy

General Events Sister Thea Bowman grew up in Mississippi and moved to La Crosse to become a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration. She was an African-American woman renowned for her spirit, joy, courage and holiness. After teaching at Viterbo University, Thea went on to receive national recognition as an advocate for intercultural awareness, black Catholic spirituality and education. Sister Thea died of breast cancer at the age of 53. On March 29 we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her homegoing with a panel presentation by four friends who will share memories and thoughts on her life and legacy. General Events Now He Belongs to the Ages: The Assassination and Funeral of President Abraham Lincoln To mark the 150th anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the Trempealeau Community Heritage Society will host speaker Frederick Beseler of La Crosse at its meeting on April 15, 2015, at 7:30 in the Trempealeau Community Center. Beseler’s presentation, “Now He Belongs to the Ages: The Assassination and Funeral of President Abraham Lincoln,” recounts the events of April 14-15, 1864, and focuses on the days and weeks following when our 16th President’s funeral train stopped in numerous cities across the northeastern United States. More than one million Americans viewed Lincoln’s body during the long, sad journey back to Springfield, Illinois. Root River Triathlon

Athletic Events Do something different this year. This doable, non-swimming triathlon, now in its 17th year, is set in Houston in the Root River Valley in scenic Bluff Country. Participation is open to men and women of every age, but people 17 years and younger need parental consent. Participants begin by canoeing or kayaking 6.5 miles down river from Houston to Mound Prairie. Then they hop on their bikes for an 8-mile road-ride back to Houston. Some hills are challenging (% grade) and demand an extra effort. The race wraps up with a 3 mile, fairly level run, starting on the Root River Trail and winding through the streets of Houston. The finish line is at the Band Shell in beautiful Trailhead Park, right where the award ceremony will take place around noon. While you are huffing and puffing away your kids and friends can explore the one-acre Natural Playground in Trailhead Park with boulders, a hand water pump, large sand play area with buried fossils, caves, labyrinth, embankment slide, and more. Our City Spring Clean Up

Juneteenth Citywide Celebration

General Events The year of 2015 will be the 150th year of the annual historic celebration since its namesake on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth, or June 19, is the date celebrated and heralded by Americans as the nation's second independence day, where freed slaves in the 19th century acknowledged their newly learned freedom by joyous singing, dancing and feasting. The day's activities has not only become tradition, but a state holiday or observance in over 40 states. Silent Directed Retreat

General Events Let go of your email, voicemail and other distractions, and come spend time in the quiet.
