Troubleshoot getting rid of events

If you're having a problem deleting, removing, or moving one or multiple events, check the list below for an explanation and solution.

I got an error message that one or more events could not be deleted

You're trying to delete events that the displayed calendar doesn't own. For example, you might be trying to delete events that belong to a calendar you subscribe to, another calendar you created that is mixed in to the displayed calendar, or events created on a different calendar that you chose to also show on the displayed calendar.

To delete the events:

  • Display the calendar that owns the events and then delete them.

To get rid of the events on the displayed calendar:

  • If the events belong to a calendar that is mixed in to the displayed calendar, clear the mixed-in calendars check box on the calendar list to hide the events.
  • If you chose to also show the events on the displayed calendar, remove them.

I got an error message that events could not be removed

There are two reasons you might not be able to remove events:

  • You can't remove events from calendars that own them. To remove events on the owning calendar, you have to delete the events or change the owning calendar.
  • You may be trying to remove events that belong to a calendar that is mixed in to the displayed calendar, and you don't have edit rights to the mixed-in calendar. To hide mixed-in events, clear the mixed-in calendar's check box in the calendar list.

I got an error message that events could not be moved

You can only move events from calendars to which you have edit rights.

  • You may be trying to move events that belong to a calendar that is mixed in to the displayed calendar, and you don't have edit rights to the mixed-in calendar. To hide mixed-in events, clear the mixed-in calendar's check box in the calendar list.

I got an error message that events could not be approved

You can approve events only on calendars that are set up for publicly-submitted events and to which you have edit rights.

  • You may be trying to approve events on a calendar to which you don't have edit rights. Talk to the calendar's creator about getting your rights changed.
  • You may be trying to approve events that belong to a calendar that is not set up for event submission.

To hide a mixed-in calendar that is not set up for event submission, so that it isn't included when you try to approve submissions, clear the calendar's check box in the calendar list.

How do I set up calendars for event submission?

I got a message that says events were removed but I still see them on the displayed calendar

The events you removed are owned by a calendar that is mixed in to the displayed calendar. Therefore, even though you removed the events from the displayed calendar, they still show up on the mixed-in calendar. To hide mixed-in events, clear the mixed-in calendar's check box in the calendar list.

In List view, I selected All and deleted but there are still events on my calendar

If you have a large number of events on your calendar, they won't all display in one list. Use the navigation arrows at the top of the calendar to view more events, and then delete or remove the events.

I don't see the Delete button in the Event Information form

You're trying to delete an event owned by a calendar that you can't edit. Calendars that you can't edit include published calendars you subscribe to or calendars that are emailed to or shared view-only with you.

Try removing the events or hiding them by clearing the mixed-in calendar's check box in the calendar list.

I don't see the Remove button in the Event Information form

You'll never see a Remove button. You can remove events by:

  • Right-clicking the event arrow and then click Remove from [calendar name].
  • Clicking the event title. In the Event Information form, look to the right under Also Shows On. Clear the check box next to the calendar from which you want the event removed.

I can't select a different calendar under Owning Calendar in the Event Information form

You don't have edit rights to the calendar that owns the event. You can't move this event to any other calendar.

  • To remove the event from the displayed calendar, click the down arrow next to the event name, and then click Remove.
