Subscribe to Trumba calendars from iCal: Examples

The four examples that follow illustrate how to subscribe to Trumba® calendars from iCal. Click the example that best matches your goal.

On the resulting calendar in iCal, I want to see:

A non-published calendar is any calendar in your account to which you have edit rights that you haven't published to the Web.

If you don't know what mixed-in events are, you might want to read Organize events from multiple calendars.

Example 1: Non-published calendar

The Trumba calendar

Jane wants to subscribe to her own personal calendar in Trumba Connect, called Jane's Calendar.

As you can see, Jane has a few other calendars mixed into her personal calendar. When she subscribes, however, the only events she'll see in iCal are the events that actually belong to her personal calendar (the events in light purple).

The Subscribe to URL

To subscribe to her personal calendar in iCal, Jane uses this URL:

http://www.trumba.com/service/janespersonalcalendar.ics,

where janespersonalcalendar is the calendar's Web name.

If you aren't sure how to find a calendar's Web name, see Find a calendar's web name.

Because she's subscribing to a non-published calendar, during the iCal subscription process, Jane will be asked for her Trumba Connect sign in email address and password.

What appears in iCal

This is what the iCal calendar looks like after Jane has subscribed to her personal calendar:

It includes only events from her personal calendar, not the events from other calendars that she mixed in.

Example 2: Non-published calendar, including mixed in events

The Trumba calendar

Jane wants to subscribe to her personal calendar, and she wants to include events from the other calendars she has mixed in.

Jane wants her calendar in iCal to look like this view of her personal calendar, which includes events from her Kids' Calendar and Girl Scout Troup 505 calendar.

The only way to subscribe to the mixed-in view of a non-published calendar is by publishing a mixed-in view first. So Jane has a couple of alternatives. She can:

Publish a mixed-in view

Pro

  • Subscribing to only one Trumba calendar gives you the view you want in iCal.
  • You can prevent a published calendar from being publicly available by password protecting the calendar and making it unsearchable.

Con

  • Does involve publishing personal information to the Web.

For information about publishing a calendar, see Publish calendars to the Web.

For a description of how to subscribe to a published calendar, see Example 4

Subscribe to each non-published calendar separately and mix them together in iCal

Pro

  • You don't have to publish personal information to the Web.

Con

  • You may have to subscribe to several different Trumba calendars to get the view you want in iCal.

For a description of how to subscribe to a non-published calendar, see Example 1

Example 3: Published calendar with no mixed-in events

The Trumba calendar

Marsha, who is very active in her neighborhood, wants to subscribe to the published Madrona Community calendar of events.

The published calendar also includes musical events (purple events on the calendar) held at the neighborhood church, St. Clouds. Marsha doesn't care about those events so she decides to subscribe to just the main Madrona neighborhood calendar.

The Subscribe to URL

To subscribe to the published calendar in iCal, Marsha uses this URL:

http://www.trumba.com/service/seattlesmadronacommunitycalendar.ics,

where seattlesmadronacommunitycalendar is the calendar's Web name.

If you aren't sure how to find a calendar's Web name, see Find a calendar's web name.

What appears in iCal

This is what the iCal calendar looks like after Marsha has subscribed to the neighborhood calendar:

No events from the mixed-in musical events calendar appear in iCal.

Example 4: Published calendar including mixed-in events

The Trumba calendar

Tim, a hockey player, wants to subscribe to a published calendar for the club where he plays.

As you can see, the overall club schedule consists of several subcalendars all mixed in to the main calendar. Tim is involved in more than one group so he wants to subscribe to the entire rink schedule.

The Subscribe to URL

To subscribe to the club calendar, Tim uses this URL:

http://www.trumba.com/calendars/kingsicehockeyclub.ics,

where kingsicehockeyclub is the calendar's Web name.

If you aren't sure how to find a calendar's Web name, see Find a calendar's web name.

What appears in iCal

This is what the iCal calendar looks like after Tim has subscribed to the club calendar:

The iCal calendar contains all the events on the main ice rink calendar.
