Join SAAM and the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate World Pride. Enjoy performances by DC’s Different Drummers, GenOUT, the youth chorus of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, and GRIDLOCK Dance. Throughout the day, the curated music stylings of Les The DJ keep the creative energy high while participants enjoy hands-on craft activities. Celebrate LGBTQ+ artists represented in the museums’ collections with coloring sheets based on artworks, a scavenger hunt through the galleries, and a drop-in story time featuring biographies. This festival is presented in celebration of World Pride 2025, hosted in Washington, DC.

Craft to your heart’s delight at this special Handi-hour pop-up at the Smithsonian American Art Museum! Create a custom, miniature felt pennant (while supplies last), check out the Courtyard Cafe for snack and beverage options, and explore the galleries with a scavenger hunt. This Handi-hour pop-up is free and open to all ages!

Join retired frames conservator Martin Kotler in a gallery talk about his work conserving SAAM’s frames for over 42 years followed by a hands-on workshop to learn about frames conservation, repair, and stabilization methods. 
Attendees will receive a kit containing materials that they can use at home for frame care. 
Participants may not bring their own frames to the workshop. 

Celebrate a uniquely American art form with Take 5: Jazz at SAAM, a series of free, live performances in the Kogod Courtyard. Zoë Jorgenson is a bassist, composer, and educator whose music is deeply rooted in jazz, indie, folk, and ambient genres. She has been hailed for her innovative approach to melodic bass and vocal lines. Jorgensen will perform a variety of original compositions and jazz standards with her quartet. 

Borrow a board game to play during the concert and stop by the Courtyard Café to purchase refreshments.

Trombonist Jen Krupa and her quintet will perform original compositions and timeless standards from the American songbook. She is a member of the faculty at The Juilliard School and is the lead trombonist of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.
