Exploring The Rivers Saved From Dams - A Good News Story about the Bear River and Colorado River

Likewise, the Colorado River has carved out some of the most beautiful sections of river this world has ever seen, but it is hiding in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Both of these rivers have had their challenges, they've seen men with greed in their heart and dollar signs in their eyes come to block their passage, flood their banks, and steal their water, in an effort to line their pockets, and sell their water to the highest bidder. But these rivers survived, and their story is our story.

Event details: Nevada Union High School’s theatrical dance program proudly presents its third and final production of the year: Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies on April 30, May 1 and 2 at 7:00 PM at the Don Baggett Theater, located at 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, CA 95945.The NU dancers have spent hundreds of hours in technique and conditioning classes this year, training in a wide variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, musical theater, and modern dance. Intermediate and Advanced-level students have dedicated three consecutive seasons in weekly after-school and weekend rehearsals, with a few students performing in twelve out of the twenty-six original dances created for this production. This concert also features community dancers who participate in the program’s enrichment classes, which are open to the public for youth, teens, and adults. Elizabeth Castañeda’s Youth Dance Fusion class (for ages 8-13), will be performing “Fantasia” from The Neverending Story & “Magic Dance” by David Bowie from Labyrinth. The piece includes student choreography collaboration by seniors Sadianne Pfeiler and Ellagrace Ristow, who have volunteered as Ms. Castañeda’s teaching assistants this year. All of the dances are set to hit songs from a variety of films–both past and present–including Donnie Darko, Dune, The Great Gatsby, Fame, Footloose, Inception, James Bond, Tron, Wicked, and several more. The show opens with a contemporary piece set to “Kiss the Sky” from the animated film The Wild Robot, choreographed by NU Dance Director, Courtney Wadman. Ms. Wadman choreographed six additional pieces, including two for the All Abilities Dance class, which partners students with moderate to severe special needs with general education peers. That class will perform “Canned Heat” from the famous dance scene in Napoleon Dynamite as well as “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. Assistant Director, Toria Talbott, created five original pieces for beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes, including the show’s finale piece, a beautiful senior-sendoff set to “I Got a Name” by Jim Croce from The Last American Hero. Varsity Dance Team Coaches, Daisy Mitchell and Kayci Most, collaborated on multiple pieces this year, including a variety of sideline and halftime routines to perform at home basketball games. Additionally, Ms. Mitchell choreographed pieces in hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and fusion. In a weekend rehearsal, Ms. Most set a fun, feel-good jazz piece to “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” from Footloose. Alumni (and dancing sisters) Sienna Riley and Gaia Weiss returned this semester to co-choreograph a modern piece for the advanced class. They selected the song “Stay Alive” by José González from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Ms. Weiss, who has taught and choreographed for the NU dance program for nearly twenty years, also staged a beginning-level hip hop piece to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the animated film Trolls. Additional guest artists include Dr. Annie Aguilar, a chiropractor at Hunt Vitality and teacher at Sweat Studio. Dr. Aguilar taught master classes in yoga, sustainable floorwork, injury prevention, and contemporary dance. She set a piece for a small group of advanced dancers to the song “What Was I Made for?” by Billie Eilish from Barbie. Azriel LaMarca, who has guest taught modern dance and composition for the NU dance program for over 25 years, created a beautiful piece to “Time” by Hans Zimmer from Inception. Erin Reynolds, adjunct professor at CSU Chico as well as CSU Sacramento, set a piece for the intermediate class inspired by the film James Bond. And last but certainly not least, visiting guest choreographer Jesse Beck returns with a surprise piece that will surely be an audience favorite. Since 2006, Mr. Beck has traveled from New York to set work on the NU Advanced Dance class, marking this year as his 20th anniversary. Dancers will be hard at work in ballet technique classes and choreography rehearsals with Mr. Beck during a portion of their spring break, getting ready for this production. Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies promises to be an inspiring night of artistry, athleticism, and unity. Audiences of all ages will surely enjoy the passion, creativity, and talent on display. Tickets are $15 each, and all seating is reserved. Event details: Nevada Union High School’s theatrical dance program proudly presents its third and final production of the year: Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies on April 30, May 1 and 2 at 7:00 PM at the Don Baggett Theater, located at 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, CA 95945.The NU dancers have spent hundreds of hours in technique and conditioning classes this year, training in a wide variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, musical theater, and modern dance. Intermediate and Advanced-level students have dedicated three consecutive seasons in weekly after-school and weekend rehearsals, with a few students performing in twelve out of the twenty-six original dances created for this production. This concert also features community dancers who participate in the program’s enrichment classes, which are open to the public for youth, teens, and adults. Elizabeth Castañeda’s Youth Dance Fusion class (for ages 8-13), will be performing “Fantasia” from The Neverending Story & “Magic Dance” by David Bowie from Labyrinth. The piece includes student choreography collaboration by seniors Sadianne Pfeiler and Ellagrace Ristow, who have volunteered as Ms. Castañeda’s teaching assistants this year. All of the dances are set to hit songs from a variety of films–both past and present–including Donnie Darko, Dune, The Great Gatsby, Fame, Footloose, Inception, James Bond, Tron, Wicked, and several more. The show opens with a contemporary piece set to “Kiss the Sky” from the animated film The Wild Robot, choreographed by NU Dance Director, Courtney Wadman. Ms. Wadman choreographed six additional pieces, including two for the All Abilities Dance class, which partners students with moderate to severe special needs with general education peers. That class will perform “Canned Heat” from the famous dance scene in Napoleon Dynamite as well as “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. Assistant Director, Toria Talbott, created five original pieces for beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes, including the show’s finale piece, a beautiful senior-sendoff set to “I Got a Name” by Jim Croce from The Last American Hero. Varsity Dance Team Coaches, Daisy Mitchell and Kayci Most, collaborated on multiple pieces this year, including a variety of sideline and halftime routines to perform at home basketball games. Additionally, Ms. Mitchell choreographed pieces in hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and fusion. In a weekend rehearsal, Ms. Most set a fun, feel-good jazz piece to “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” from Footloose. Alumni (and dancing sisters) Sienna Riley and Gaia Weiss returned this semester to co-choreograph a modern piece for the advanced class. They selected the song “Stay Alive” by José González from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Ms. Weiss, who has taught and choreographed for the NU dance program for nearly twenty years, also staged a beginning-level hip hop piece to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the animated film Trolls. Additional guest artists include Dr. Annie Aguilar, a chiropractor at Hunt Vitality and teacher at Sweat Studio. Dr. Aguilar taught master classes in yoga, sustainable floorwork, injury prevention, and contemporary dance. She set a piece for a small group of advanced dancers to the song “What Was I Made for?” by Billie Eilish from Barbie. Azriel LaMarca, who has guest taught modern dance and composition for the NU dance program for over 25 years, created a beautiful piece to “Time” by Hans Zimmer from Inception. Erin Reynolds, adjunct professor at CSU Chico as well as CSU Sacramento, set a piece for the intermediate class inspired by the film James Bond. And last but certainly not least, visiting guest choreographer Jesse Beck returns with a surprise piece that will surely be an audience favorite. Since 2006, Mr. Beck has traveled from New York to set work on the NU Advanced Dance class, marking this year as his 20th anniversary. Dancers will be hard at work in ballet technique classes and choreography rehearsals with Mr. Beck during a portion of their spring break, getting ready for this production. Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies promises to be an inspiring night of artistry, athleticism, and unity. Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) presents a play that explores the notions of truth and justice – a “who done it?” in medieval Japan -- challenging perceptions of eye witnesses. Based on stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Rashomon is written by Michael Kanin and Fay Kanin and directed by Sonny Alforque. There are sword fights, rain on stage, taiko percussion, and more, transporting the audience to Heian-era Kyoto! Due to the themes of murder and assault, the play is recommended for ages 14+.
Rashomon was an Akira Kurosawa film in 1950 and had been hailed as one of his finest, starring Toshirô Mifune, Machiko Kyô, Masayuki Mori, and Takashi Shimura. The play's Broadway premiere in 1959 (starring Rod Steiger and Claire Bloom) received rave reviews and was nominated for three Tony awards.

Event details: Nevada Union High School’s theatrical dance program proudly presents its third and final production of the year: Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies on April 30, May 1 and 2 at 7:00 PM at the Don Baggett Theater, located at 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, CA 95945.The NU dancers have spent hundreds of hours in technique and conditioning classes this year, training in a wide variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, musical theater, and modern dance. Intermediate and Advanced-level students have dedicated three consecutive seasons in weekly after-school and weekend rehearsals, with a few students performing in twelve out of the twenty-six original dances created for this production. This concert also features community dancers who participate in the program’s enrichment classes, which are open to the public for youth, teens, and adults. Elizabeth Castañeda’s Youth Dance Fusion class (for ages 8-13), will be performing “Fantasia” from The Neverending Story & “Magic Dance” by David Bowie from Labyrinth. The piece includes student choreography collaboration by seniors Sadianne Pfeiler and Ellagrace Ristow, who have volunteered as Ms. Castañeda’s teaching assistants this year. All of the dances are set to hit songs from a variety of films–both past and present–including Donnie Darko, Dune, The Great Gatsby, Fame, Footloose, Inception, James Bond, Tron, Wicked, and several more. The show opens with a contemporary piece set to “Kiss the Sky” from the animated film The Wild Robot, choreographed by NU Dance Director, Courtney Wadman. Ms. Wadman choreographed six additional pieces, including two for the All Abilities Dance class, which partners students with moderate to severe special needs with general education peers. That class will perform “Canned Heat” from the famous dance scene in Napoleon Dynamite as well as “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. Assistant Director, Toria Talbott, created five original pieces for beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes, including the show’s finale piece, a beautiful senior-sendoff set to “I Got a Name” by Jim Croce from The Last American Hero. Varsity Dance Team Coaches, Daisy Mitchell and Kayci Most, collaborated on multiple pieces this year, including a variety of sideline and halftime routines to perform at home basketball games. Additionally, Ms. Mitchell choreographed pieces in hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and fusion. In a weekend rehearsal, Ms. Most set a fun, feel-good jazz piece to “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” from Footloose. Alumni (and dancing sisters) Sienna Riley and Gaia Weiss returned this semester to co-choreograph a modern piece for the advanced class. They selected the song “Stay Alive” by José González from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Ms. Weiss, who has taught and choreographed for the NU dance program for nearly twenty years, also staged a beginning-level hip hop piece to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the animated film Trolls. Additional guest artists include Dr. Annie Aguilar, a chiropractor at Hunt Vitality and teacher at Sweat Studio. Dr. Aguilar taught master classes in yoga, sustainable floorwork, injury prevention, and contemporary dance. She set a piece for a small group of advanced dancers to the song “What Was I Made for?” by Billie Eilish from Barbie. Azriel LaMarca, who has guest taught modern dance and composition for the NU dance program for over 25 years, created a beautiful piece to “Time” by Hans Zimmer from Inception. Erin Reynolds, adjunct professor at CSU Chico as well as CSU Sacramento, set a piece for the intermediate class inspired by the film James Bond. And last but certainly not least, visiting guest choreographer Jesse Beck returns with a surprise piece that will surely be an audience favorite. Since 2006, Mr. Beck has traveled from New York to set work on the NU Advanced Dance class, marking this year as his 20th anniversary. Dancers will be hard at work in ballet technique classes and choreography rehearsals with Mr. Beck during a portion of their spring break, getting ready for this production. Spring Dance Concert: Songs from the Movies promises to be an inspiring night of artistry, athleticism, and unity. Audiences of all ages will surely enjoy the passion, creativity, and talent on display. Tickets are $15 each, and all seating is reserved. Based on stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Rashomon is written by Michael Kanin and Fay Kanin and directed by Sonny Alforque. There are sword fights, rain on stage, taiko percussion, and more, transporting the audience to Heian-era Kyoto! Due to the themes of murder and assault, the play is recommended for ages 14+.
Rashomon was an Akira Kurosawa film in 1950 and had been hailed as one of his finest, starring Toshirô Mifune, Machiko Kyô, Masayuki Mori, and Takashi Shimura. The play's Broadway premiere in 1959 (starring Rod Steiger and Claire Bloom) received rave reviews and was nominated for three Tony awards.
