Please join us for a talk by John Chenault on “What to do when your Database cries Uncle - How to approach building really REALLY big system.” Building really big "Almost infinitely Scalable" systems is not easy or obvious. This talk will explore some of the methods we developed at Amazon.com to scale the system from a single Oracle database to the plethora of services that drive the business today. The intent is to give the audience an introduction into how to think about highly scalable systems. John Chenault has over 30 years experience as a software engineer. He has worked on a wide range of systems and environments including Banking, Telephony, Help Desk and e-commerce systems. While at Amazon.com he was one of a core group of Sr engineers who moved the company to a scaling model using peer to peer services. As part of that effort he designed and implemented the first real time inventory availability system for the company, and developed several patents for the process John was the Principal engineer on the Fulfillment by Amazon project that allows third party vendors to use Amazons fulfillment systems. |
