Join us for an illuminating evening of media analysis and incisive discussions. Led by UW Bothell grad students in Cultural Studies, the event will guide audiences with a series of interactive workshops and panel discussions that examine key cultural concerns like appropriation, Othering, and stereotypes in contemporary media. Through familiar and new visual materials, and guided interactive activities you will learn to read image and video media artifacts! We will engage examples of villain identity-formation in film, (mis)representation and blame of victims in news media, cultural labor exploitation and invisibility of Indigenous people, and debate the socioeconomic impact of art and cultural appropriation. Extended Q&A discussions to follow! |
