In the 2016 Engagement Survey, Onboarding was identified as an area that needed improvement on our campus. Organizational Excellence/Human Resources has made changes to the in-person New Staff Orientation (still held monthly) and have created new checklists that are being used by new staff and their managers. Additional information is also available on-line and at the Seattle campus Benefits and Union (where applicable) orientations. But orientation is only a small piece of on-boarding. You, as the manager, have responsibility for the largest part of On-boarding. According to the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), in a recent survey of over 1000 workers, just 12 percent agreed their company did a good job with onboarding! An effective on-boarding program can enhance job satisfaction and reduce turn-over. This presentation will include: A walk-through of all resources available to you as a manager.
