Description | SEA Campus Events Board (CEB) in collaboration with Dr. Georgia M. Roberts' BIS 265: Introduction to Comparative Ethnic Studies class invite you to join us for music, storytelling, and conversation about social issues and creative expression with UWB alum, South Seattle-based rapper/poet, and community organizer: Essam Muhammad. Essam has been crafting his skills as an MC to talk about relevant issues he faced, speaking on family, education, and travel, and how creative expression can be a form of escapism. Zoom Meeting information can be found in the event page details. More about Essam: After releasing his debut album "12.12," & his sophomore album "Chapter20six"' with acclaimed producer, Petty Pro, 'chapter20six' early 2020. Both projects are produced with strictly accapella sounds. In the three years since his debut video "West is my Home," Essam has been invited to perform on different continents, sharing his journey through creative expression everywhere from countries like South Africa, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Netherlands and more. He has also maintained a constant presence in the South Seattle community where he grew up, helping to cultivate safe spaces for young poets to grow and share their work." About BIS 265: Making space to share our stories is a key component of comparative ethnic studies and helps us understand not only the historical ways that groups have been situated within structures of power, but also how we might move forward in creating a more equitable future.
