\nIn the next decade\, NASA will send astronauts to Mars for the first ti
me. Separated from Earth\, and unable to communicate with ground in real
time\, crew members will experience extreme isolation that could gravel
y affect their three-year journey. Space: The Longest Goodbye\, a Sundan
ce-premiering documentary\, follows a savvy NASA psychologist tasked wit
h protecting daring space explorers. \n\nJoin the National Museum of Na
tural History and Sant Director Kirk Johnson in conversation with former
astronaut and museum board member Cady Coleman and film director Ido Mi
zrahy as they discuss and show clips from the film.\n\nRegister here: \n
https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/88911493/an-evening-with-cady-coleman-and-
ido-mizrahy-washington-national-museum-of-natural-history.\n\nAbout the
film: In the next decade\, NASA intends to send astronauts to Mars for t
he first time. To succeed\, crew members will have to overcome unprecede
nted life-threatening challenges. And while many of these hazards are ph
ysical\, the most elusive are psychological. Throughout their three-year
absence\, crew members won’t be able to communicate with Earth in real
time due to the immense distance. The psychological impact of this level
of disconnectedness and isolation—both from mission control and loved o
nes—is impossible to predict\, endangering the mission itself. Directed
to mitigate this threat is Dr. Al Holland\, a NASA psychologist whose jo
b is to keep astronauts mentally stable in space. Space: The Longest Goo
dbye follows Holland\, rookie astronauts Kayla Barron and Matthias Maure
r\, and former astronaut Cady Coleman\, among others\, as they grapple w
ith the tension between their dream of reaching new frontiers and their
basic human need to stay connected to home. This conflict transcends spa
ce travel: how do humans balance the quest for progress with a deep conn
ection to history and each other?\n\nAbout Cady: Cady Coleman is a forme
r NASA Astronaut and a retired US Air Force Colonel with more than 180 d
ays in space\, accumulated during two space shuttle missions and a six-m
onth expedition to the International Space Station (ISS) as the Lead Rob
otics and Lead Science officer. Cady served in a variety of roles within
the Astronaut Office\, including Chief of Robotics\, and lead astronaut
for integration of supply ships from NASA’s commercial partners. Before
retiring from NASA\, she led open-innovation and public-private partner
ship efforts for NASA’s Chief Technologist. Cady and her family were rec
ently featured in two documentaries\, PBS’s The Longest Goodbye\, and Th
e Wonderful: Stories from the Space Station. Her book\, Sharing Space: A
n Astronaut’s Guide to Mission\, Wonder\, and Making Change\, about her
NASA experiences and the insights she gained as an astronaut\, is due ou
t this summer. Cady is a vocal advocate for inclusion in STEM/STEAM fiel
ds\, a research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab\, and consults on space-r
elated work for research and for the media. She serves on several boards
\, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and Gree
nfield Community College.\n\nAbout Ido: Ido Mizrahy’s narrative and docu
mentary films premiered at Sundance\, SXSW\, Tribeca and New Directors /
New Films\, among many other festivals\, and went on to win a number of
awards. His films have been distributed by AMC\, Sundance\, Netflix\, F
ilmrise and Greenwich Entertainment and co-produced by ITVS\, PBS\, BBC
\, MTV and Arte. Mizrahy is currently co-creating a VR video game\, with
Nir Sa'ar (writing-producing partner on "Space: The Longest Goodbye")\,
that’s equal parts family drama and space thriller. \n\nImage credit: N

\nThe Earth is made of the magic of nature. Wondrous ecosystems - biomes
- which make up the world we call home. For one special morning\, the da

invite you to explore the Letters we write to Earth. A celebration and\,
at the same time\, a cautionary tale of our impact on those biomes as t
old in the stories of “We Hear You - A Climate Archive.” 77 young people
from around the world came together virtually to create and share their
stories about what it’s like to be alive at this pivotal moment for our
only home. Their stories are our inspiration - stories to share. Come f
or a wondrous experience and learn about how we can celebrate and heal t
he Earth\, becoming agents of change.\n\nAbout Company | E\nCompany | E
is a DC-based repertory dance company whose work is created through inte
rnational artistic and cultural exchanges. Using dance\, music\, storyte
lling\, filmmaking and the Metaverse\, the Company uses art to bridge cu
ltural divides\, speak to the critical issues of our time and honor the
idea that “there is more than unites us than divides us\,” Company | E s
