Embrace the power of wool weaving in all its forms. Centuries-old Coast Salish weaving traditions are a co re part of ceremony and celebration\, yet remain under-appreciated by th e public.

Woven in Wool features both historica l Salish wool weavings and new creations by contemporary weavers\, inclu ding robes\, vests\, tunics\, tumplines\, and skirts\, as well as weavin g tools and materials. Firstperson voices from the Salish weaving commun ities will contextualize their own history and artistic traditions\, lea ding visitors through the process of weaving and a seasonal story of cre ation: gathering\, processing &\; spinning\, dyeing\, and weaving.

This exhibit is a collaboration between the Coast Salish Wool Weavi ng Center (CSWWC) co-curators and members of the Burke’\;s staff. T ogether\, they will examine the creation of woven artworks and the exten sive cultural and scientific knowledge embedded in woven textiles\, whic h connect generations and reflect relationships with the world around us .

J. Rinehart Gallery announces their solo exhibit ion by artist and educator\, Kim Van Someren. Van Someren’\;s exhib ition\, Holding the Line\, investigates the architecture of str ucture and how systems of order simultaneously depend on and disrupt for malized construction. Questioning the authority of precision\, turning i nstead to the overlooked: the incidental\, the domestic\, the improvised .

Am id the global resurgence of religious nationalism\, the exhibition criti cally revisits Portugal’\;s Catholicism-based dictatorial regime\, Estado Novo (1933–\;1974)\, through a contemporary lens. C urated by Nikoloz Nadirashvili (PhD Candidate\, Art History)\, the show features Gabriel Siams (Brazil/Portugal)\, Paulo Mendes (Portugal)\, Dan iel Padrino (Venezuela/Portugal)\, and Aura (Portugal)\, whose multimedi a works unsettle conventional notions of spirituality\, family\, work et hic\, homeland\, and\, ultimately\, authority.
