Description | Artist and alum Kayla Mohammadi will give a presentation titled "20 Years after UW: 1998–2018." Mohammadi was born in San Francisco, California. She currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts and South Bristol, Maine. Mohammadi received her BFA in 1998 from the University of Washington in Seattle and her MFA in 2002 from Boston University. Currently, she is a Lecturer in Fine Arts at Massachusetts College of Arts in Boston. She has been a visiting artist and lecturer at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA; St. Mary's College in Maryland; UMass Boston; Dartmouth College; and Northeastern University, Boston. Awards include: Purchase Prize and Exhibition Invitational from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, NY, 2014; The 2008 Joan Mitchell Foundation Award for Painters, The Dedalus Foundation Award for 2008, The Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation Grant for 2006, Blanche E. Coleman Award for 2004, the Constantin Alajalov Scholarship, and Vermont Studio School Fellowship in 2001. In 2009, she was a juror for the Boston Young Contemporary Exhibition and the Rhode Island Council for the Arts Award. Recently, she was part of The Center for Maine Contemporary Art Biennial Exhibition in Rockland, Maine, and will have a solo show at Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland this summer.
