 Trees endure time and memories. Revolving around trees, the environment and the living beings form a collective life community. "Tshiū-á Siann" Whispers of Trees is a collaborative artistic co-creation of trees between composer CHOU Hsuan-Hung and film director WEI Zhao-Yi. Their recording, filming, soundscaping, and music writing in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, transforms into a multimedia musical journey of projected video, music, and live performance with the Seattle Symphony string quintet and pianist Li-Cheng Hung. Layered with music, the swaying shadows of trees and the ambient sounds they make offer a sensual experience through which the imprints of life emerge. Like daydreaming under a tree, the environment of human activity and our state of mind unfold through the perspective of trees as one, entering the enhanced rhythm of everyday life, reflects upon the interactions between fantasy and reality.

CHOU Hsuan-Hung received his master's degree in film and multimedia scoring from NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

WEI Zhao-Yi's film and image works contemplate the development of cross-cultural, cross-ethnic, and cross-specific relationships that unfold through the interactions between humans, objects, places, and the environment. Piano | Li-Cheng Hung
A native of Taiwan, Li-Cheng Hung holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Washington, under the tutelage of Dr. Robin McCabe. A recipient of numerous awards, Li-Cheng has performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed with the UW Symphony Orchestra and the Burmese Orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. Li-Cheng currently serves as a rehearsal pianist and teaching artist at the Seattle Opera. Violin I | Andy Liang
A featured artist on NPR’s From the Top, Andy Liang is currently in the First Violin Section of the Seattle Symphony. He received both his bachelor's and master’s degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice where he studied with Cho-Liang Lin. After his solo debut with the Oregon Symphony at the age of 11, Andy has performed in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Jordan Hall. Outside of music, Andy enjoys playing tennis, video games, and hanging out with his dog, Mango. Violin II | Sol Im-Cigich
Born in South Korea, Sol Im-Cigich holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance with Dr. Ronald Patterson from the UW School of Music. Following her debut performance with Cascade Youth Symphony and as a recipient of numerous awards, she has performed in masterclasses with world-renowned artists. Sol has also served as the Donald and Gloria Swisher concertmaster for the UW symphony and is currently a violinist at Pacific Northwest Ballet. Viola | Olivia Chew
Olivia Chew, a native of Long Island, joins the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in 2020, after being a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. An active chamber musician, she is a frequent guest artist with the Lakes Area Music Festival, the Society for Chamber Music Rochester, and the Rock Creek Trio. She has studied at Indiana University with Stephen Wyrczynski and Manhattan School of Music with Karen Dreyfus. Cello | Nathan Chan
Nathan Chan joins Seattle Symphony in 2017. Recognized for his musical talent from an early age, Nathan made his musical debut at age 3 conducting the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, The Royal Philharmonic, Albany Symphony, Reno Philharmonic, and Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra. Chan received his B.A. in Economics at Columbia University and his Master of Music with Richard Aaron at The Juilliard School. Double Bass | Will Langlie-Miletich
Will Langlie-Miletich joins the Seattle Symphony in 2019. He holds a bachelor’s degree in double bass performance with Harold Robinson and Edgar Meyer from the Curtis Institute of Music. Will was principal bass of Symphony in C in Camdenand substitute musician with the Philadelphia Orchestra. As a Klein Laureate, he has appeared as a soloist with the Peninsula Symphony and Santa Cruz Symphony, and has performed at ChamberFest Cleveland, Music in the Vineyards, and the Marlboro Music Festival.
