This summer we are planning a screening series centered around artists working through questions central to the Gallery's mission of education, social justice, and experimentation that honors the legacy of Jacob Lawrence. The works we screen will offer us tools to consider as a community as we collectively imagine the future of the gallery. Each screening will center around a community table where we will gather for dinner, view a work together, and then engage in a conversation or activity to further explore the themes of the work. For this screening we will be thinking about how we attend to the legacy of Black artists and how that work can be embodied. E. Jane’s work and the care they extend towards the Black femmes at the center of their practice is a model for our community to explore together. |
