Focusing on the CTLA Trunk Formula Method, this workshop gives an overview of the appraisal process and provides an opportunity to practice in the field. Participants will review common mistakes and refine their craft as appraising arborists. The first portion of the course is a lecture that discusses the four primary components of the formula: trunk area, species rating, location rating, and condition rating. Next, the error associated with each component is identified, and recommendations are given for reducing error. A substantial portion of the lecture focuses on the proper placement of the measuring tape on trees with trunk abnormalities. The second half of the course is a field application of the concepts discussed in the lecture. Participants will divide into groups and appraise several trees. The class will reconvene and discuss the results. Register online |
