In this lecture, Dr. Angela N. Parker problematizes Paul’s words at 6:17 (“From now on, let no one make troubles for me, for I bear the marks of Jesus in my body.”) Arguing that such language demonstrates Paul’s identification with slaves and child bearing women, Parker asks how contemporary Christians have lost that connection. Through a womanist lens of embodied identity, Parker ponders Christian identification as tantamount to being with mothers whose children are lost to imperial violence (such as Mary, the mother of Jesus).
