Description | Presenter: JERE BACHARACH (MA Harvard, PhD University of Michigan) has headed the University of Washington’s Department of History, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, and (as interim chair) Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization. He has also served as president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America, Middle East Medievalists, and the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs. In Cairo he was interim director of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). His numerous publications in Islamic numismatics include Islamic History through Coins (2006), and he has also published on topics ranging from the architecture of power in the Islamic world to the use of African slaves in Muslim armies |
