2018 Stephen Stewart Gloyd Endowed Lecturer: Ivo Garrido, MD, MPH, Minister of Health Mozambique 2005-2010 Dr. Ivo Garrido graduated from Unversidade Eduardo Mondlane with an MD degree in 1986. He was the President of the Association of Surgeons of East Africa in 1995 and Minister of Health of Mozambique from 2005-2010. Dr. Garrido was the President of the World Health Assembly in 2006. Dr. Garrido will share a sense of reality on the ground and give a unique perspective on Alma-Ata from the 1970s, when Mozambique and other countries were creating their own pathways to primary health care (PHC). As a physician and as former Minister of Health, Dr. Garrido offers a critical perspective on current approaches to global health by high-income countries, donor dependence and donor-funded vertical programs in low income countries. |
