Description | Dr. Elaine M. Faustman is professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and director of the Institute of Risk Analysis and Risk Communication at the University of Washington. Dr. Faustman directs the National Science Foundation (NSF)/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)-funded Pacific Northwest Center for Human Health and Ocean Studies, the NIEHS/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-funded Center for Child Environmental Health Risks Research, and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)-funded Pacific Northwest Center for the National Children’s Study. She is an elected fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Society for Risk Analysis. She has served on the National Toxicology Program Board of Scientific Counselors, the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Toxicology, and on numerous editorial boards. Her research expertise also includes development of decision-analytic tools for communicating and translating new scientific findings into risk assessment and risk management decisions. In particular, she is interested in the molecular and cellular mechanisms of developmental and reproductive toxicants, characterizing in vitro techniques for developmental toxicology assessment, and development of biologically based dose-response models for noncancer risk assessment. From pesticide exposure to oceans and human health and beyond, Dr. Faustman's research areas both inform and complement each other. |
