Anu Asnaani, PhD Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Navigating Cultural Issues in Global Mental Health Interventions: Finding the Balance Between Cross-Cultural Competency and Fidelity to Evidence-Based Treatment Techniques Effective delivery of evidence-based treatment interventions across a diversity of patients both locally and abroad continues to be a foremost concern of clinicians and clinical researchers alike. Further, therapeutic alliance and cross-cultural competency appear to be important features in supporting favorable outcomes of evidence-based treatments, particularly in diverse treatment settings. Yet, there remains a scarcity of empirical data testing specific features that most readily facilitate effective collaboration in such multicultural therapy relationships. Using West Indian culture as the global context, this talk will explore the practical application of empirically-derived guidelines for achieving cross-cultural competence in CBT as outlined by Asnaani & Hofmann (2012). A light lunch will be served during this talk. Dr. Asnaani is a candidate for the Population Health Initiative Joint Hire position in Psychology and Global Health. This lecture is free.
