Conifers provide the structural framework for many gardens, serving as specimen trees, focal points, screens, and hedges. Unique growth habits along with contrasts of foliage color and texture can provide year round interest in any size garden. In the dark days of winter a golden cypress can light up the garden with colorful foliage, and a prostrate weeping hemlock can soften a rockery year round. If you are interested in refreshing or building up your conifer identification skills, this class is for you. Management and landscape use of conifers will also be discussed. The class will begin at the Center for Urban Horticulture, with a review of basic conifer tree identification techniques and discussion of common landscape tree species and varieties found in the Pacific Northwest. This will be followed by an outdoor field session in the afternoon at the nearby Seattle Children's Hospital campus. Lunch is included. Cost: $125 Register online or by phone (206-685-8033) |
