Shinji Konno is Professor of Japanese Language and Literature at Seisen University,Tokyo. His specialty covers the history of the Japanese language from the 7th century to medieval to early modern period (Muromachi to Meiji period). His methodology is to find the common practice within the Japanese language during different periods of history and the language usage in art and everyday culture. He was recipient of the 30th Dr. Kindaichi Kyosuke Memorial Award in 2001.

This seminar is is co-led and coordinated by Christopher J. Lowy, UW doctoral student in Japanese Literature with the Department of Asian Langauges & Literature. Mr. Lowy will be moderating the seminar as well as interpreting for Dr. Konno.
