Description | Kevin King, PhD Associate Professor of Psychology Associate Director, Center for Child and Family Well Being University of Washington Doing Bad to Feel Good: Dispositional Links Between Impulsive Behavior and Negative Emotions Impulsive responding to negative emotions is a critical personality correlate of psychological disorders such as borderline personality disorder, substance use disorders, eating disorders, and internalizing disorders like anxiety and depression. In this talk, Dr. King will describe his lab’s research, which seeks to understand the links between negative emotions and impulsive behavior, and the mechanisms by which this connection raises risk for psychopathology across multiple operationalizations and timescales. This research provides important insights into for whom, when, and why negative urgency raises risk for psychopathology.
