Challenges and delays in translating evidence into practice are well-known, resulting in substantial public health consequences. One way we can increase our impact is by better communicating about our research to patients, other stakeholders, and the public.

Katherine Hoerster, PhD, MPH, will highlight several approaches we can all take to better communicate about our work. She will emphasize the importance of broadly sharing scientific and programmatic discovery, while prioritizing two-way communication. She will invite you to make science communication a top professional priority for our psychiatry research, teaching, and clinician community as a way of truly advancing public health.

Dr. Hoerster is an investigator at the VA Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. She also provides clinical care with the VA PTSD Clinical Team. Dr. Hoerster's research examines the influence of context on health, health behavior, and access to care, and improving these issues for Veterans with PTSD.
