Description | Speaker: Nelly Mugo, MBChB, MMed, MPH Title: HPV Vaccine Schedule: From Three Doses to Two Doses, What informs the current Single Dose Research Nelly Mugo, MBChB, MMed, MPH, is Head of the Sexual Reproductive Adolescent and Child Health Program, and a Principal Research Scientist at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and honorary lecturer at the University of Nairobi. She is a clinician-researcher with expertise in providing obstetric and gynecologic clinical care, for adult as well as adolescent girls, and training Kenyan medical students in this field. She has worked on sexually transmitted infections, HIV-1 and cervical cancer prevention research in Kenya for 18 years and initiated a clinical trial site in Thika, Kenya. She was a co-investigator on the Partners in Prevention HSV/HIV Transmission Study, the Partners PrEP Study, and the Partners Demonstration Project, as well as principal investigator of the Thika, Kenya site and regional physician for the Kenyan sites (overseeing results dissemination to stakeholders at a national level). She participated in the development of the Kenya HIV Prevention Revolution Road Map Team and led the writing of the HIV PrEP section of the Kenya 2016 ART guidelines. Dr. Mugo completed her MPH in the UW Department of Epidemiology in 2003 and has continued to be very active in international collaborative research, including the Partners in Prevention HSV/HIV Transmission Study and the Partners PrEP Study and Partners Demonstration Project, both multinational HIV-1 prevention studies. Her research has focused on adolescent and young women as a vulnerable population for cervical cancer and HIV infection. Currently, she is implementing an MPT intravaginal ring (IVR) study in collaboration with CDC/CONRAD in Kisumu, Kenya. |
