Description | Speaker: Alfred Osoti, MBChB, MMed, MPH, PhD Title: Pregnancy, Metabolic Syndrome, and Risk for Future Cardiovascular Disease Alfred Osoti is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Nairobi and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the Department of Global Health University of Washington. He holds an MBChB and Masters of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Nairobi as well as MPH and PhD from the University of Washington. Dr. Osoti started his public health training and mentorship as a Fogarty Scholar and Fellow under the mentorship of Carey Farquhar and James Kiarie. He has conducted and been a co-investigator on several studies including male partner HIV testing and partner testing in Kenya and maternal health including postpartum bleeding and use of antenatal corticosteroids in preterm birth. Under the mentorship of Carey Farquhar, John Kinuthia, and James Kiarie, he is currently the PI of a grant evaluating the risk of future cardiovascular disease after pregnancy. He is also a Co-PI of a training grant on reducing the burden of cardiometabolic disorders in low- and middle-income countries specifically in Kenya and Nepal (PI: Annette Fitzpatrick). He has supervised more than 20 postgraduate students and published more than 40 peer-reviewed publications. |
