The past decade has seen the development of models of distant reading as a way to leverage the emergence of large scale data sets. In this talk, Mark Olsen will outline some different ways that texts can be read at a distance, which can rely on non-textual data, and will describe some of his current work to facilitate a return to close, or at least closer, reading of texts in a big data environment.
